Job Summary (Description of main purpose of job):

• A construction lab technician is responsible for performing laboratory tests and inspections on construction materials, ensuring their quality and compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
• His work helps prevent defects, ensure compliance with regulations, and ultimately contributes to the successful completion of construction projects and play a vital role in supporting construction projects by providing accurate data and recommendations to maintain construction quality and safety.

Key Tasks:

• Conduct laboratory tests on construction materials such as concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates to assess their properties and quality.
• Conduct tests and analyses on collected samples using specialized equipment and instruments, including but not limited to compression tests, slump tests, moisture content tests, and sieve analysis.
• Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and external laboratories to coordinate sample collection and testing schedules.
• Collect samples of construction materials from job sites according to established procedures, ensuring proper labelling and documentation.
• Effectively communicate test results, recommendations, and any issues to relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure tests comply with industry standards and project specifications.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and instruments to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or repair needs.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Verify that construction materials meet industry standards, project specifications, and quality assurance/control guidelines.
• Report any deviations or non-compliance issues to relevant parties.
• Document and report any deviations or safety concerns.
• Assist in implementing quality control plans for construction projects.
• Monitor and inspect construction materials and processes in the field when necessary.
• Keep detailed records of all tests, procedures, and results.
• Prepare comprehensive reports for senior lab technician
• Provide guidance and training to assistant laboratory technicians.
• Supervise and oversee their work to ensure accuracy and adherence to protocols.
• Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other team members to communicate test results, provide recommendations, and address any concerns related to construction materials
• Stay up-to-date with industry standards, testing methodologies, and laboratory techniques.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
• Propose and implement improvements to laboratory processes and procedures.

Qualification Required & Experience

(e) Essential Qualifications :

• HND in a relevant field such as civil engineering, construction management, or materials science.

(f) Essential Experience :

• Previous experience in road and bridge construction
• Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and software for data analysis.
• Knowledge of construction materials, testing methods, and relevant industry standards.
