Job Summary
PURPOSE:
To direct and control under limited supervision, daily and long-term activities for the blasting activities in the open pit mining area
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Ensure department’s compliance with the requirement of Government of Ghana Agencies, lending institutions, shareholders’ interests, environmental, health & safety legislation and company regulation
• Responsible for Safety, Environmental, and Social Responsibility policies. Creates a suitable work environment to motivate staff, employees and contractors to achieve optimum effectiveness, productivity and operating costs.
• Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every mine worker under or assigned to his/her supervision
• Conducts safety meetings, staff meetings and safety inspections. He will correct or compliment employee behaviors.
• Reports all accidents and incidents in the work group to enable management to identify areas for improvement in work practices.
• Execute short and long term mine plans.
• Direct and oversee all blasting activities such as: areas to be blasted and developed, rate of development, control of mineral quality and tonnage, and direct the distribution of labor, supplies and equipment. Oversee assigned contractors and their areas.
• Ensure project work is coordinated with engineering department to complete within accepted project time schedules.
• Coordinate the maintenance of blasting equipment with the Maintenance Department.
• Analyze daily production and cost data to ensure the blasting is operating within overall production and budget forecasts.
• Interact with operating and non-operating departments to develop short –term operating goals and budgets.
• Coordinate activities with all departments to ensure continuity of total operations.
• Inspect mining and drill and blast operations on a constant basis to detect and resolve safety, personnel and production problems.
• Interact with Government officials to ensure a safe and environmentally compatible operation

Qualification Required & Experience
• Degree in Mine Engineering or related field or
• Minimum 3 to 5 years of blasting supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience are necessary.
• Strong presentation, facilitation, and consultation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
• Ability to identify and analyze organizational needs.
• Demonstrate strong supervisory, verbal and written communication skills.
• Must currently hold Ghana statutory certification for First Aid, Blasting, and Mine Foreman.
