Job Summary
The University of Ghana invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the following vacant position in a new created unit called Office for Research, Innovation and Development (ORID).
Reporting To: Pro-Vice Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Development)
Position Summary:
The successful candidate will support the Pro-Vice Chancellor to ensure that the mandate of ORID is fulfilled and also assist the Pro-Vice-Chancellor to put in place and implement mechanisms that will ensure that the core functions of ORID are delivered.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Director shall have direct oversight of the following units in ORID-Research Administration; Contract Management; Outreach and Extension; Marketing/ IP/ Patenting; Publications; and Fund raising.
The Director shall specifically have the responsibility to:
• Provide leadership, supervise and motivate Assistant Registrars and Research Development Officers to deliver set goals and targets;
• Develop and lead effective strategies for fund raising for research;
• Set standards and ensure effective dissemination of high quality research output;
• Set, prioritize and meet targets that will drive UG's research enterprise;
• Foster industry-University relations for mutual benefit;
• Ensure professional development of assigned staff to be abreast with current trends and policies in research management;
• Ensure effective dissemination of research results;
• Promote the development of faculty capability and capability to deliver high quality research output; and
• Any other responsibilities as specified by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (RID)
Qualification Required & Experience
• Experienced researcher of professorial rank; or a person with equivalent qualifications from industry with proven research record evidenced by number of research projects undertaken, track record in attracting research grants as well as diversity of grant sources. He/she must also possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated experience/technical knowledge in developing and implementing research related policies;
• Experience in working collaboratively to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the donor community;
• Strong managerial skills especially in research management
