Research Assistant Maize Trial Preparations and Management (Ref: DDG-R4D/AfDB/RA/GHN/05/13

Background:
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) invites applications for the position of Research Assistants (Maize Trial Preparations and Management). This position is funded by African Development Bank (AfDB) under the Support to Agricultural Research for Development of Strategic Crops in Africa (SARD-SC).

Position/Responsibilities:
The Research Assistants will work as members of the SARD-SC project team in Ghana.

Primary Duties:

•  Assists in execution of maize agronomic trials
•  Assist with the collation and analyses of date resulting from agronomic experiments
•  Supervision of on-station and on-farm trials
•  Works with other project staff in capacity building of public and private sector partners to develop and disseminate maize agronomic pactices
•  Provide supports to national programme staff and national partners for field trial management and data management and analysis
•  Any other responsibility as may be assigned by the Supervisor
•  Conduct any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor from time to time

General Information:
Initial appointment is for two years. Subsequent renewal of the contract will be decided based on research outputs and productivity, and continued need for the position. IITA offers a competitive remuneration package.

Qualification Required & Experience

•  BSc/HND in Crop Production, General Agriculture, Horticulture or related discipline from a reputable university/college/polytechnic
•  Basic knowledge of crop management operations
•  Good time management and cropping skills
•  Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure
•  Minimum experience of 2 years in a similar position
•  Team player
