Job Summary
PURPOSE:
• To direct and control the activities for all operating and service departments at a mine site in Ghana, Africa
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Lead Safety & Health performance by engaging with subordinates and global HSLP to create the mindset of an accident free environment (zero harm) and establish a framework for creating “lowest possible risk” work practices and environment
• Responsible for all areas of operation , health, safety, security, environmental, social and community relations within the operating area.
• Accountable for the execution of the operational plan to achieve positive business results
• Ensures the integration of the different operating areas through coordinating their efforts to enable the entire process to operate.
• Monitors staffing and costs for all operating and support services departments.
• Ensuring compliance to the MOS Audit Schedule for all implemented MOS elements in all functions (Maintaining the MOS Audit Schedule).
• Ensure high level of MOS sustainability by executing improvements and actions coming out of the audits and taking action on non-conformances to the MOS processes.
• Ensure the effective and efficient communication among areas, as well as between the other managements that are not under the positions responsibility.
• Approves the mine site business plans and operating budgets.
• Evaluate and approve the budgets and medium-term and long-term targets (Production, Training, Loss Prevention, Environment, and others).
• Interacts with senior site managers and general superintendents to develop long-term operating goals and budgets.
• Responsible for development, coaching and mentoring of key senior staff (National and Expat)
• Ensures that the sites comply with all regulations, company policies and procedures, and the Company's environmental compliance policy.
• Ensures optimal and safe operation of the sites.
• Promote the sense of social responsibility inside and outside the company.
• Oversees translation and implementation of Corporate tools/policies/systems into local context and application.
• Communicate the company and corporation policies and strategies in all the areas, and coordinate the efforts to improve and maintain the company’s image.
• Responsible for strategic mine site (asset) optimization and resource development
• Interacts with Regional Governmental/Regulatory/Agency officials
• Maintains relationship with local Traditional Leaders and Community Decision makers
• Position may be required to travel to, and assist other domestic and international sites.
• Accept personal responsibility for the health and safety of every mine worker under or assigned to his/her supervision.
• Capital projects – ensure integration of execution and due diligence in strategic alignment
• Ensure the implementation of BE projects and the continuation of an environment focusing on continuous improvement.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Position is site based and located in a mining environment.
Qualification Required & Experience
• B.S. degree in Mine Engineering or related field and 15 years of experience in all areas of mining and seven years of mine management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience are necessary development of staff and promotion of business growth within the region -
• Experience in the management and administration of budgets and financial controls.
• Experience with developing country government relations and community development.
• Ability to influence and lead change at the site.
• Ability to work in a team environment with internal and external partners.
• Ability and willingness to coach and mentor national employees to assist in the localisation of senior management positions.
