WASCAL (West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use) is a research and education-focused institute designed to help tackle the climate change challenge and thereby enhance the resilience of human and environmental systems. It does so by strengthening the research capacity and infrastructure in West African countries and Germany. WASCAL is seeking to fill the position of a Finance Manager to be posted at the WASCAL Headquaters in Accra, Ghana
The main task of this position are to:
• Manage all aspects of finance and accounting for WASCAL
• Establish and implement financial procedures in line with WASCAL requirements
• Ensure WASCAL meets its commitments to the donors in all finance related matters
• Implement strong internal control mechanisms and resolve accounting discrepncies
• Liaise with auditors
• Assist staff in finance and other related areas (accounts,inventory,fixed assets)
• Visit field offices to verify accounts and support them in their capacity strengthening
• Implement a new accounting software package in Accra and in Ouagadougou
• Ensure that major commitments with other parties are covered by a legal written agreement
• Execute monthly payroll including overtime compensation, insurance and tax liabilities
• Prepare bank reconciliation of cash advances, approval of petty cash payments
• Regularly monitor and report expenses against budget
• Carry out any other duties as assigned by the Director Finance & Administration
Qualification Required & Experience
The successful candidate is expected to have:
• A qualified Accountant Degree (ACCA,CIMA or equivalent) an MBA will be an added advantage
• Excellent English and good French speaking and writing skills
• Experience in implementing a dedicated accounting software package(eg. Sage Fund Accounting)
• Minimum of 3 years professional experience in a similar senior position
• Experience in multi-currency accounting
• Proven ability to provide support,guidance and training
• Readiness to travel within the WASCAL region
