The British High Commission (BHC) Accra has a vacancy for S1 Driver position at the Transport section.
The Transport section handles the day to day transportation needs of the High Commission.
The main elements of the job include:
• Operating assigned vehicle in a safe and courteous manner
• Maintaining defensive driving
• Reads and interprets maps and driving directions to plan the most efficient route service for customers, and reads and interprets road signs in English
• Presents safety briefing to passengers prior to each trip departure
• Keeps the assigned vehicle(s) clean inside and outside
• Checks water, gas, oil and mechanical condition before leaving on run.
• Reports delays and accidents.
• Maintains accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets, customer transportation forms, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records that are requested from management
• Reports defects or problems with vehicle to supervisor.
• Perform minor vehicle repairs; skilled in reasoning skills to interpret policies and procedures, maps, and route directions; and ability to administer First Aid,
• Performs minor maintenance tasks on assigned vehicle(s) as required;
• Fuels the assigned vehicle(s)
• Coordinates the schedule for major or periodic vehicle maintenance with management and staff to minimize service interruptions
• Responds immediately to accident or medical emergencies by notifying emergency response providers, and rendering First Aid until emergency personnel arrive
• Provides a communication link between customers and staff
• Assists passengers, including handicapped, in and out of the vehicle; operates ramps, lifts and securement devices as needed
• Performs such other duties as may be required.
Qualification Required & Experience
Acceptable Experience and Training:
• Must have basic education (O Level or SSCE or MSLC)
• Must have a minimum 10 years driving experience
• Must possess and maintain a safe driving record
• Must possess the required valid Driving licence of CLASS F
• Must have a good knowledge of driving in Accra and other parts of the country.
• Special Requirements
• Must take and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, as well as at random, reasonable suspicion, and post-accident drug and alcohol tests.
• Training on highway safety rules and regulations.
• Must pass an annual physical examination.
The skills/attributes of the successful applicant will include
• Assuming responsibility for tasks with minimum supervision, delivering to deadlines
• Willingness to be flexible and, if required, take on tasks outside those of a driver.
• Good communicating skills in speaking and writing
• The ability to remain customer focused, polite and courteous under pressure.
• Excellent team player
• Computer skills are not part of the job but would be an advantage
The successful applicant is likely to have one or more of:
• Ability to drive a multi-passenger vehicle safely and appropriately,
• ability to read and interpret road signs in English;
• ability to read, understand, and adhere to the rules and regulations of the Driving and vehicular Licensing Authority
• ability to establish effective professional relationships with customers, co-workers, and upper level staff and employees
• ability to prepare concise and accurate records and reports;
• extensive knowledge of the operations and features of assigned vehicle(s)
• ability to recognize vehicle maintenance needs

The monthly salary range for S1 positions in the BHC is between GHc 712-Ghc1,062. The starting salary for this position is Ghc712.00
The appointment will be offered on a 1 year contract and subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period. Thereafter, the appointment will be renewed subject to satisfactory performance, by mutual agreement.
