Job Vacancy For Community Mobilization Officer (WASH) At CARE International (Lawra)



CARE International in Ghana is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Community Mobilization Officer for West African Water, Sanitation Hygiene Program (WA-WASH). The primary goal of the West African Water, Sanitation Hygiene Program (WA-WASH) is to increase sustainable access to safe water and sanitation, and improve hygiene in West Africa by building on and expanding past West African Water Initiative (WAWI) efforts in the region.

JOB SUMMARY

The Community Mobilization Officer (CMO) is responsible for facilitating the implementation of CARE's component of the WA-WASH program in the project districts. He/She will promote good working relationship with relevant partner organisations and stakeholders at the district and regional levels under the supervision of the Project Manager. This position is based in the Lawra District.

Key Responsibilities

•   Facilitate Community and district level institutions analysis of capacity needs and roles and responsibilities in relation to WASH, food security and gender.
•   Facilitate capacity building of communities in community water and sanitation management and Multiple Water Use Systems
•   Facilitate and strengthen linkages among community level stakeholders and District level institutions to support sustainable management of Multiple Use Water Systems.
•   Facilitate the establishment and strengthening of local networks levels for engagement in policy dialogue on WASH
•   Lead training for Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) facilitators
•   Facilitate the establishment of sanitation markets at the district level in collaboration with other players
•   Lead School Health and Education Program(SHEP) in selected basic schools
•   Support community and district level institutions to adopt gender friendly tools and approaches in the conduct of their WASH responsibilities
•   Facilitate capacity building of communities in the areas of gender in WASH and local advocacy,
•   With support from the VSLA advisor, facilitate the formation and nurturing of VSLA groups in communities
•   Facilitate the linkage of savings from VSLA groups to the financing of WASH in communities
•   Support the documentation of project processes and achievements in user friendly forms for dissemination to project stakeholders

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A minimum qualification of a university degree, in rural development, development studies or community development, social sciences or related field.
•   At least three (3) years of relevant working experience in community facilitation and capacity building.
•   Strong practical experience and knowledge of WASH
•   Familiar with the Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) and School Health and Education Program (SHEP) concept
•   Knowledge and experience in food security, sustainable livelihoods and VSLA approaches will be an advantage
•   Strong practical experience in participatory analysis and planning
•   Good knowledge of the water and sanitation sector in Ghana
•   Understanding of socio-economic issues, rights-based development and natural resource management issues
•   Ability and willingness to ride a motor bike with valid drivers licence
•   Well developed written and oral communication skills in English, Wale/Dagaare:
•   Writing, presentation and reporting skills
•   Willingness to stay and work in the district
