Job Summary:
The High Commission of Canada in Accra, Ghana seeks an experienced candidate for a term position as an Assistant Accountant. The term assignment will be for a period of one (1) year.

Under the supervision of the Accountant, maintains the official post accounts and provides financial services to the Mission; prepares monthly financial statements, records and reports, in accordance with departmental regulations and procedures; receives and deposits all public funds; maintains

Qualification Required & Experience

•   University Degree in Commerce or Accounting from a recognised institution or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.
•   Fluency in English (speaking, reading and writing).
•   Knowledge of French an asset (not mandatory)
•   At least three years of work experience in an Accounting or Financial office environment.
•   Demonstrated experience working on a computer in a network environment and the ability to type at a minimum of 30 words per minute. Experience in dealing with the general public and responding to inquiries.

SCREENING & EVALUATION:

Only candidates that meet the essential experience and education criteria above will be invited for further assessment. Candidates will be evaluated to determine if they meet the following rated knowledge and abilities/skills criteria using one or a combination of the following means – written test, oral communication, role play, interviews and reference checks.

Rated Qualifications
Knowledge:

•   Knowledge of Accrual Accounting and General Office procedures and practices related to finance.
•   Knowledge of Software Packages; Windows, Microsoft Outlook and Excel, PowerPoint
•   Knowledge of SAP accounting system is an asset
•   Knowledge of processing and verifying invoices or accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with procedures

Abilities/Skills

•   Ability to analyse completeness of claims, interpret information and enter data into a computer system. Provide guidance on the application of regulations, policies and procedures.
•   Ability to organise and prioritise workload to meet critical deadlines. Willing to work overtime if required.
•   Ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships within team and with clients and supervisors.
•   Ability to communicate effectively with clients, both orally and in writing in English
•   Ability to adapt quickly to policy and procedural changes
•   Ability to communicate in French is an asset

Conditions of Employment
The appointment of the successful candidate will be subject to Medical Clearance
and Enhanced Reliability Checks (ERC) obtained by Management

Salary Range: LE-04: Starting GHS 15,161 annually
