Golden Star Resources (GSR) is a growing mining Company with two operating mines in Ghana, Golden Star (Bogoso/Prestea) Limited and Golden Star (Wassa) Limited and other projects at various stage of development.
Description Of Job
Responsibilities:
• Direct, Coordinate and Manage Company Health and Safety issues;
• Ensure the company is in complaint with appropriate statutory requirements and standards;
• Ensure routine inspections and audits of the workplace and corrective actions and implemented through effective tracking systems;
• Conduct safety inductions for all new and existing employees, contractors, and all visitors onsite;
• Lead in incident reporting, investigation and identifying root causes of all incidents and implement remedial actions to prevent future occurrence;
• Lead the development and documentation of Health and Safety Risk Assessment, Management and Standard Operating Procedures;
• Liaise with the Human Resources Department to coordinate safety training for employees
• Work with and ensure all third party contractors and vendors aware of and comply with all Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures;
• Conduct safety meetings for the departments and third party contractors;
• Liaise with government departments and other agencies on health and safety matters;
• Ensure the preparation and timely reporting of accurate Safety Statistics;
• Perform any other related duties assigned from time to time by supervisor
Contract Duration: One-year renewable
Qualification and Required Competencies:
• A Degree in Mining, Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemistry, Applied Sciences or related field with at least seven (7 ) years experience in a similar position in the mining industry;
• Certificate in occupational Health and Safety will be an added advantage
• First Aid Training and practice skills;
• Knowledge of Risk Assessment, Management and Loss Prevention Process;
• Knowledge of relevant Health and Safety Legislation Requirement;
• Good knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health and Safety practices;
• Proven ability to develop, and co-ordinate and monitor safety programmes;
• Excellent accident/incident investigation skills
• Must be computer literate; Ms Word, Ms Excel, Power point etc
• Good team player with excellent interpersonal skills
• Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving license
