Perseus Mining is a duet listed (Australia, Toronto) gold miner and explorer focused on the West African region. Perseus Mining (Ghana) Limited (PMGL) has recently commissioned the world-class Edikan gold project in the Western Region of Ghana. Edikan Gold Mine (EGM) has a current mining reserve of 3.3M oz of gold from a resource base of 4.3M oz. The Edikan processing facility has been designed as a 5.5Mtpa processing facility with the ability to expand this to 8Mtpa in the future. The plant is capable of producing at a rate of 220-270,000oz gold

Description Of Job

The Environmental Laboratory Chemist, reporting to the Laboratory Superintendent, will direct, perform chemical, biological and physical test/analysis in support of waste water analysis and record test results and assist in the process laboratory at Edikan Gold Mine Environmental Laboratory.

The responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to:-

•  Ensure health and safety is the number one goal by following procedures, processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;
•  Perform inspections and ensure policies, procedures are followed;
•  Advise laboratory staff on the hazardous nature and properties of the chemicals and precautions necessary to ensure their safe use;
•  Install and commission new equipment;
•  Perform chemical, biological and physical tests including nitrogen species, oil and grease, calorimetric and volumetric analysis, cyanide, trace element and heavy metals;
•  Utilize a variety of laboratory equipment including the atomic absorption spectrometer to test for metals and trace elements;
•  Assist the environmental laboratory superintendent in coordinating the activities and operations of the lab and overseeing lower level staff;
•  Provide training to Lab personnel on appropriate lab methods, procedures techniques and new equipment;
•  Liaise with officer in charge of monitoring for timely submission of samples; and
•  Mentor subordinates and provide learning materials for career advancement

Qualification Required & Experience

•  The successful applicant must possess Degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or Metallurgical Engineering and 3 years in a leadership role in operating an environmental laboratory
•  Experience with broad variety of analytical device and techniques, QA/QC and ISO4001 are essential
