Abt Associates is a major American business and government research, technical assistance, and consulting company, manages the USAID-funded Africa IRS (“Indoor Residual Spraying”) Project, which seeks to reduce the burden of malaria in 14 African countries through cost-effective commodities procurement and logistics systems, access to technical expertise, and implementation of Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS).

•   District IEC Assistants ( 5 Positions)
•   Duration of Contract: Up to Three Months
•   Stations: East Mamprusi, Savelugu / Nanton, West Mamprusi and Bunkpurugu Yunyoo.
•   Reporting to Spray Operations Coordinator (SOC)

RESPONSIBILITIES

•   Spearhead the implementation of community outreach programs and communication interventions at the district level.
•   Manage and coordinate community mobilization and education  activities to promote understanding and  high acceptance of  IRS
•   Draw and implement community outreach programs   and design communication strategies for malaria control, specific to IRS operations at the district level.
•   Liaise with the spray Operations Coordinator to communicate and educate key stakeholders in the target district on IRS activities
•   Monitor / supervise the activities of community IEC implementers in the district on routine basis.
•   Manage the IEC campaign prior to, during and after spray operations and ensure collaborations with spray operators.
•   Liaise with communication agencies / organizations that will assist with community mobilization for spray activities.
•   Provide assistance in conducting M&E and end of round spray report.
•   Provide weekly reports on IEC activities in the target district to the Spray Operations Coordinator
•   Facilitate training and refresher training of IEC implementers.
•   Perform other duties as assigned by the Spray Operations Coordinator (SOC) and Chief of Party (COP).

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Undergraduate degree /Diploma in Community Development Studies and communication with at least three (3) years working •   Additional professional training in participatory approaches and community mobilization will be preferred.
•   Good experience working with communities and local leaders, sensitizing and mobilizing communities.
•   Strong organizational, reporting and management skills.
•   Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
•   Strong computer skills
•   Proficiency in English and one or more of Northern Ghanaian Languages (Mamprusi/ Dagbani and Moar)
•   Previous work on IRS activities will be an advantage.
•   MUST be able to ride a motorbike and possess a valid license.
