The International Cocoa Initiative (ICI) seeks a Training Associate to support its operations in Ghana.
JOB FUNCTION
Under the supervision of the ICI National Coordinator and in close collaboration with the Communications Manager, the Training Associate will be responsible for initiating and executing training and awareness raising interventions for stakeholders in the cocoa sector, including industry, district and government officials, civil society, as well as producers’ organisations and communities.
Training and capacity development
•  Assist the National Coordinator and Programme Associates with the planning of workshops and seminars for various cocoa –sector stakeholders including partner organisations such as industry, producers’ organisations, non-governmental organisations, extension services, certification bodies and national authorities.
•  Analyze and contribute to the review and development of training modules relating to addressing the worst forms of child labour in cocoa as well as broader child development, child protection and child rights issues.
•  Support the Community Development Associate (CDA) and Income Generating/Livelihood Associate (IGA/LA) to provide relevant capacity development for community groups including the Community Child Protection Committees (CCPCs) in the performance of their tasks.
•  Support the CDA and implementing partners (IPs) to arrange and undertake relevant trainings on resource mobilization, Community Action Plan (CAP) monitoring, CAP assessment and review, mainstreaming CAPs into district development plans and any other relevant training that promotes the use of CAPs.
•  Support the IGA/LA on the integration of child labour and child protection within relevant activities including Farmer Field Schools (FFS).
•  Plan and undertake training and awareness raising activities.
•  Develop appropriate training tools suitable to various stakeholders.
•  Make recommendations for improvement of training activities.
Advocacy and Communications
•  Support ICI’s advocacy objectives as well as the preparation of brochures and other communication materials of ICI and their dissemination.
•  Prepare success stories, document best practices and other necessary materials from implementation of activities in the communities and facilitate their dissemination to relevant partners and beneficiaries.
Reporting
•  Prepare reports on activities in accordance with ICI’s reporting frameworks.
•  Disseminate reports generated to relevant stakeholders.
Financial management
•  Prepare financial reports from training and communication activities.
•  Support the ICI Finance Associate to prepare financial reports using ICI’s financial reporting formats.
Applicant must have
•  Knowledge and skills for training using varied methodologies;
•  Knowledge of the concepts of child protection and child labour including its causes, dimensions and effects;
•  Knowledge of international and national laws and policies on child labour;
•  A strong knowledge of the cocoa sector including the activities that take place in cocoa production and processing;
•  Skills in programme development and monitoring, report preparation and knowledge documentation;
•  Very strong written and verbal communications skills in English;
•  Have good people management skills;
•  Be able to initiate action at short notice, produce high quality results and able to work independently, as well as be a good team player;
•  Be competent in Office Suites (Word, Excel, and Power Point, conversant with using the internet).
Qualification Required & Experience
•  A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Communications, Development Studies, Social Sciences or any other relevant field;
•  At least 5 years working experience as a trainer;
•  At least 5 years’ experience working in the development or social sector.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
The position is based in Accra with extensive travel to ICI’s project districts.
LANGUAGES:Â Fluency in written and spoken English, and a Ghanaian language preferably Twi. Knowledge of French would be a plus.
