The Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons (GCPS) was established in 2003 by an Act of Parliament, Act 635 and is responsible for postgraduate training in medicine, surgery and related disciplines in Ghana. The GCPS is made up of two Divisions, the Division of Physicians and the Division of Surgeons. A Vice-President heads each Division.

Job Summary

To be responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and
maintenance of hardware systems, network, software and related infrastructure. Ensuring
that the hardware systems, operating systems, software applications, and related
procedures adhere to College values and practices

Job Responsibility

•   Support equipment in a Microsoft Windows and Linux environment from design through implementation and support
•   Install, configure and upgrade workstations, servers, storage and related hardware and software in a LAN, WAN and standalone environment
•   Provide investigation, diagnostic testing and repair or resolution of system, hardware, software and network infrastructure
•   Ensure a high level of security on all systems
•   Create relational databases on MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL and SQLite
•   Evaluate and modify systems performance including future upgrades
•   Provide support to the e-learning platform
•   Institute a systems maintenance schedule and be responsible for the supervision of works including repair
•   Prepare and implement approved College IT policy
•   Any other duties assigned by the Rector

Qualification Required & Experience

Candidates for the position must:

•   Have Masters qualification in Management Information Systems (MIS)
•   Be a member of a recognized/accredited professional IT Body.
•   A post qualification experience of at least seven (7) years.

Person Specification

•   Understand the complexity of dealing with systems issues in a tertiary health professional training establishment
•   Be resourceful and work under pressure
•   Show creativity and initiative
•   Exhibit good communication skills (spoken & written). Interpret and/or discuss information with those who need to know which may involve terminology or concepts not familiar to many people;
•   Experience working with open source technology in an educational environment would be preferred.
•   Have good interpersonal relationship
