Job Vacancy For Senior Field Officers At Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) – (Tamale)



Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a United States-based non-profit organization dedicated to creating, evaluating and replicating innovative solutions to poverty and policy problems worldwide. IPA specializes in using the randomized controlled trial methodology to evaluate the impact of development programs.

Project summary:

IPA is seeking to hire Senior Field Officers (SFO) for one (1) year who would work as part of a survey team on the Disseminating Innovative Resources and Technologies to Smallholders (DIRTS) project evaluation. The survey team would collect household and farming plot data in the nine DIRTS implementation districts namely Tolon/Kumbungu, Savulugu, Karaga, Central Gonja, Yendi, Mion, Saboba, Tamale-Metro and Zabzugu all in the northern region of Ghana, to understand the living standards of farmers. The survey will require extensive travel within and across the nine districts in the northern region.

Responsibilities:

Senior Field Officers (SFO) will oversee survey fieldwork. This will involve managing a team of Surveyors and overseeing field finances. The SFO is to ensure high quality data collection.
In particular, the SFO will;

•   Assist the Office staff in the preparation and delivery of training to Community Extension Agents (CEA) and Community Survey Agents (CSA);
•   Supervise all the CEAs and CSAs at a field station, manage their work, and ensure that they are all following IPA survey protocols;
•   Distribute wages and communication allowance to CEAs and CSAs each morning, collect receipts and reconcile the funds to the field manager;
•   Distribute respondent gifts to CEAs and CSAs;
•   Verify that CEAs and CSAs have interviewed the right respondent;
•   Track expenditures; back checking and editing activities of each team using tracking forms accurately and consistently, and give daily updates to the Associate Field Officer;
•   Do frequent and random spot checking in the field in order to monitor Surveyors;
•   Report consistent problems to the Field Manager and Associate Field Manager.
•   Promptly respond to contact from the Field Manager, Associate Field Manager or other IPA staff.
•   Perform other duties related to the project that may be assigned to him/her.

Qualification Required & Experience

It is required that potential candidate possess;

•   A diploma or University degree in Agriculture, Economics, or any other related field;
•   Strong oral and written communication skills in English;
•   Strong oral proficiency and basic grammatical knowledge of Dagbani and/or Konkomba. Knowledge of additional or multiple languages used in northern region is an added advantage;
•   Good knowledge of basic mathematical computations;
•   Good interpersonal skills;
•   Ability to work with little or no supervision;
•   Previous experience (at least one year) in any of these positions;
•   Computer literacy with proficiency in MS word and excel
