Job Vacancy For Research Supervisor, Socio-Economics At IITA (Tamale)



The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is an international    non-profit organisation working with diverse partners to develop agricultural solutions to tackle hunger and poverty by reducing producer and consumer risks, enhancing crop quality and productivity, and generating wealth from agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa. IITA is headquartered in Nigeria, with offices located in other countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including Ghana.

Job Summary

IITA-Ghana is seeking a Socio-economics Officer to work on the Africa Research in Sustainable Intensification for the Next Generation (Africa RISING) and Putting Nitrogen Fixation to Work for Smallholder Farmers in Africa (N2Africa) projects respectively.

Responsibilities

•   Collect, analyse and summarise a broad range of socio-economic data on on-station and on-farm trials.
•   Assist with the creation of research-for-development platforms for action research.
•   Perform economic analysis of improved technologies.
•   Assist with adoption and impact studies.
•   Prepare technical and non-technical reports.
•   Supervise and train research technicians on appropriate data collection.
•   Assist with organising workshops, meetings and monitoring tours.
•   Assist with out-scaling and scaling-up of project outputs.
•   Establish and maintain contacts with farmers and relevant stakeholders.
•   Perform any other official duties assigned by supervisor.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   MSc in agricultural economics, development economics or economics from a recognised university.
•   A minimum of 3-4 years of post B.Sc. experience in socio-economics research.
•   Good writing and verbal communi- communication skills in English and other local language in northern Ghana.
•   Excellent computer skills and knowledge of statistical packages for economic analysis.
•   Good team player and adaptable to working in multi-cultural team.
