Job Summary

Purpose of Role
The successful applicant will be reporting to the Mine Manager and will also be responsible for the day-to-day safety and production performance of the Open Pit operations. He will also ensure continued growth of the Mine Operations Team and to maximize operational safety, efficiencies and profitability.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties

•   Coordinate Drilling, Blasting, Loading and Hauling activities and have an oversight responsibility for TSF construction.
•   Monitors equipment availability and assess production priorities based on availability of equipment
•   Complies and ensures compliance, with established methodologies and quality standards related to mine operations while at the same time recommending new or alternate approaches
•   Participate and/or develop applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
•   Assists in preparing reports and completing documentations related to Mine Operations
•   Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures and regulations in Mine Operations
•   Provides training, workplace inspection and safety awareness to employees as needed
•   Ensure that safety and welfare of employees is top priority at all times in the work site
•   Any other job assigned by the Mine Manager

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Must hold a Degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution
•   Must have at least 10 years’ experience in mining, and not less than 5 years in surface mine operations
•   Must have a Mine Superintendent’s Certificate
•   Mine Manager’s certificate will be an advantage
•   Complete knowledge of the Open Pit Mining environment
•   Solid safety performance at the personal and professional level
•   Current and valid driver’s license required. Supervisors Certificate of Competency

Additional Qualifications & Skills Requirement

•   Ability to learn quickly
•   Ability to function within the required physical demands of the job as outlined
•   Detailed knowledge of established mining methods and operating practices
•   General knowledge of the integration of the mining and maintenance functions
•   Working knowledge of the explosives used in mining
•   Good working knowledge with MS Office Suite especially in Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
