Access to adequate, affordable and sustainable energy products and services is a precondition for development. Typically, less than 10% of the population in a sub Saharan African country is connected to the electricity grid and over 80 % of the same population lacks access to modern, safe, clean and efficient energy sources for heating, cooking and lighting.

This segment of the population uses traditional biomass such as charcoal, wood, straw, agricultural residues and dung, the use and collection of which brings with it various negative consequences, such as increased pressure on the environment, a high workload and indoor air pollution, especially affecting women and children.

Access to modern energy not only helps eradicate extreme poverty and improve the environment and living conditions, it also reduces the disparity between men and women. Social services (hospitals and schools) and businesses can only operate efficiently if they have access to modern energy. It is nowadays fully recognized that access to affordable and sustainable energy products and services is necessary for the fulfilment of most development objectives.

The overall goal of SNV Ghana is to contribute to improve the livelihoods of the rural and peri-urban poor in Ghana by accelerating the dissemination of renewable energy products and services for the poor.

Job Summary

Are you a good organizer and planner, with excellent communication and analytical skills, willingness to perform administrative tasks, interested to work in international development and in sustainable energy?

SNV Netherlands Development Organization is looking for a Management Support Officer to support the Global Managing Director Energy.

Responsibilities

•   Organize the planning, monitoring and reporting cycle; collect countries’ information using digital systems, e-mail and skype..
•   Data analysis and desk research; summarize and distribute relevant documentation. .
•   Prepare and organize global team meetings and workshops, make and distribute minutes and reports of meetings.
•   Prepare, send and file or upload reports and letters; manage logistics and agenda.

SNV offers an attractive package and a one year contract, for 20 hours per week with possibility to expand to a full-time position and contract extension. Duty station will be SNV Ghana office in East Legon, Accra effectively starting from 1st of April 2016.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   University education in social sciences, communication, business administration or similar.
•   A minimum of 5 years of work experience in a similar job, preferably within an international development context;
•   Excellent interpersonal and English communication skills, quality orientation, service oriented, IT proficient. •   Knowledge of the Energy sector and of the French language is an advantage;
