Background
Inspire Her, through the “Silence No More” project, is addressing the critical intersections between sexual violence, reproductive health (SRH), and menstrual health. Many adolescent girls and young women experience heightened vulnerabilities due to systemic barriers, economic marginalization, and gender inequalities that exacerbate period poverty, restrict access to reproductive health services, and expose them to higher risks of sexual violence.
To document these issues and drive advocacy for change, Inspire Her seeks to engage a supplier (media production company, filmmaker, or documentary producer) to develop a compelling documentary that tells the story of how these interlinked challenges shape the realities of vulnerable groups, especially adolescent girls. Background
Inspire Her, through the “Silence No More” project, seeks to develop a compelling documentary that highlights the intersection of sexual violence, reproductive health (SRH), and menstrual health. The documentary will explore how these issues are interconnected and how they contribute to multiple vulnerabilities for adolescent girls and
young women. It will adopt an intersectional lens to examine the structural barriers, economic constraints, and social norms that exacerbate girls’ risks and limit their access to essential health and protection services.
To bring this vision to life, Inspire Her is seeking a qualified media production company or filmmaker with expertise in social impact storytelling, documentary production, and advocacy-driven visual content to produce a high-quality, impactful film that captures real-life stories, expert insights, and evidence-based narratives.
Objective of the Assignment.
The supplier will produce a documentary (20-30 minutes) that:
• Showcases the intersections between sexual violence, reproductive health, and menstrual health, emphasizing how period poverty and lack of access to SRH services increase vulnerabilities.
• Highlights the lived experiences of adolescent girls, young women, survivors, healthcare providers, and advocates.
• Uses an intersectional approach to explore the compounding effects of poverty, gender discrimination, and systemic barriers.
• Features expert insights from healthcare professionals, activists, legal experts, and policymakers to provide broader context and solutions.
• Serves as an advocacy tool for policy change, awareness-raising, and community engagement.
Scope of Work
The selected supplier will be responsible for:
1. Pre-Production:
• Conducting research and consultations with Project goals and Inspire Her’s team to refine the documentary’s focus.
• Developing a detailed script and storyboard aligned with Inspire Her’s vision.
• Identifying and selecting participants, experts, and locations for filming.
2. Production:
• Capturing high-quality interviews with survivors, healthcare professionals, advocates, and policymakers.
• Filming in selected project districts (West Mamprusi and Mamprugu Moagduri) and other relevant locations.
• Gathering b-roll footage (e.g., schools, health facilities, community settings, support centers).
3. Post-Production:
• Editing and producing a professionally narrated, visually compelling full documentary.
• Adding subtitles, graphics, and necessary translations where needed.
• Providing a final cut and short versions (1-3 minutes and 5-10mins) for advocacy use on social media and other platforms.
4. Delivery & Dissemination Support:
• Providing the final product in multiple formats (MP4, high-resolution for screenings, compressed for social media).
• Advising on distribution strategies to maximize impact.
Expected Deliverables
• Inception report with detailed documentary plan, interview guide, and filming schedule.
• High-quality 30-40 minute documentary.
• A 3-minute advocacy cut for social media and awareness campaigns.
• Raw footage and editable project files for Inspire Her’s archives.
• A final report summarizing the production process, challenges, and recommendations.
Timeframe
The assignment is expected to be completed within three months from the contract signing:
1. Month 1: Research, script development, pre-production planning.
2. Month 2: Filming in designated locations.
3. Month 3: Editing, review, and finalization.
Qualifications and Experience Required
• Proven experience in producing social impact documentaries or advocacy films.
• Strong background in storytelling, scriptwriting, and visual narrative development.
• Experience working with human rights, gender, or health-related content.
• Ability to work with sensitive topics and engage respectfully with survivors.
• Access to high-quality filming and editing equipment.
