COTVET was set up by an Act of Parliament to formulate national policies on skills development across pre-tertiary and tertiary education, in both the formal and non formal sectors of the economy. COTVET is also to co-ordinate, harmonize and supervise the activities of private and public providers of technical and vocational education and training (TVET), including apprenticeship

Job Purpose:

To accurately process, enter and reconcile accounting documents and information and maintain accounts in accordance with laid down accounting procedures, standards and accounting schedules to ensure an accurate and timely record of financial transactions to facilitate the timely preparation of financial statements and reports.

Responsibilities

•   Receive process and enter accounting documentation according to laid down procedures, ensuring accuracy; identify anomalies and take appropriate action, including seeking advice to resolve queries.
•   Check to ensure that accounting entries have the necessary supporting documentation, and that all transactions (e.g. vouchers, purchase orders, statements, etc.) are properly authorised in accordance with procedures and levels of COTVET.
•   Prepare journal entries for authorisation and processes entries in accordance with laid down procedures and allocations.
•   Maintain files, registers, records, vouchers, etc., ensuring that they are properly indexed, cross referenced.
•   Check, reconcile and match documentation for the payment of creditors.
•   Prepare payment vouchers and other documentation for authorisation.
•   Prepare cheques for authorisation and payments.
•   Ensure that all accounting vouchers are entered in accordance with prescribed procedures.
•   Take appropriate action to recover accounts receivable as assigned by supervisor.
•   Receive monies and issue receipts in accordance with procedures; prepare receipts for banking and ensures that receipts are credited to appropriate accounts.
•   Any other duties assigned by supervisor

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A minimum of High National Diploma in Accounting
•   At least two years’ post qualification experience. Knowledge of accounting software applications would be an added advantage
