The position:

•   IITA is recruiting for an Accounts Officer position for the IITA Ghana Country Office. S/he will work under the supervision of the IITA-Ghana Country Representative and the Station Administrator.

Main Duties:

Work with research teams and partners in Ghana and the Budget and Finance Office at the IITA Headquarters in Ibadan to:

•   Maintain an accurate electronic spreadsheet to track all cash receipts and expenditure of funds transferred for the operation of IITA Ghana.
•   Compile and forward timely expenditure returns to .the Budget and Finance office of IITA in Ibadan.
•   Ensure proper documentation and filing of all project financial reports and contracts.
•   Manage station imp rest and provide monthly imp rest reports to the Finance Directorate.
•   Bill/invoice all projects, staff and cost centres respectively for use of office space, assets and other services.
•   Assist cost centre holders with payment of invoices.
•   Organise IITA Ghana staffs local and international travel expenses and claims.
•   Prepare monthly bank'reconciliations of accounts and submission of same to the Director of Finance.
•   Review IITA Ghana staffs local and international travel expenses and claims.
•   Supervise the management of petty cash.
•   Liaise with Logistics Officer to ensure an up-to-date assets register and submission of monthly supply chain report to IITA HQ.
•   Develop and maintain an efficient filing system and database on project activities and stake holders.
•   Make entries of all bank transactions into the accounting system, verifying accuracy, approvals, and accounting code in accordance with specific funding source.
•   Prepare monthly payroll procedures, including statutory payment processes and taxation.
•   Produce monthly financial reports, i.e. field financial reports, including income statement, expenditure reports and travel expense statements.
•   Make and store photocopies of all original vouchers, invoices, receipts and other supporting documents of bank transactions monthly after submission of the field report.
•   Track expenditure and assist with project-appropriate expenditure tracking systems in line with project budgets and activities.
•   Perform other administrative and financial management duties assigned by the supervisor.

Duty Station: Tamale, with field work travels to project sites in Upper West, Upper East and Northern regions.

Terms of appointment: This is Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) position based at IITA-Ghana's Tamale Office. Initial appointment is fixed term for two years with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon individual performance and the availability of funding

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A Bachelor's degree (B.A. or BSc) in Accounting, Finance and Business Management/Administration or Part 2 of ACCA or ICA from a recognised institute.
•   A minimum of 5 years post-graduation working a similar position in a reputable experience in organisation.
•   Experience working on agricultural projects funded by donors will be an advantage.
•   Experience working with CGIAR' centres on internationally funded projects will be an added advantage
•   Excellent computer skills with good grasp of spread sheets, word processing and other MS office applications, and ability to learn new applications quickly.
•   Excellent English reporting, writing and oral communication skills.
•   Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
•   Accuracy and attention to details.
•   Good understanding of budgeting and financial management procedures.
•   Ability to work with minimal supervision.
•   Good supervisory skills.
•   Strong ability to co-ordinate, prioritise and organise workload; take initiative and work under pressure.
•   Good team spirit and also participate as a team member in accomplishment of duties.
