Primary Responsibilities

• The Applications Support Officer will primary be a UNIX/Solaris and Windows Systems Administrator in the company, and will be responsible for supporting the server infrastructure.
• He/She will directly work with servers and service owners to ensure reliability and sustainability of the across all enterprise applications as well as the internal IT infrastructure
• He/She shall work under the supervision of the Senior Applications Officer and other Applications Officers in the department
• He/She and other be assigned support work from ServiceDesk

Description of Main Duties

• Provides support for the smooth and continuous operation of all hardware and software system within IT infrastructure, and other offices.
• Configuration, installation and upgrade tasks within the distributed systems environment
• Administer servers, desktop computers, printers, software deployment, security updates and patches
• Carry out Backup, restore procedures and ensure integrity of all data in the IT infrastructure
• Manage user accounts per request
• Maintain data entre environmental and monitoring equipment
• Execute deployments for all environments
• Perform regular fire archival purging and housekeeping
• Optimise existing environment based on business and security needs
• Under supervision of the senior application officer collaborate with external developers ad infrastructure engineers and internal DBSs to troubleshoot issues
• Participation in a 24x7 on duly rotation

Qualification Required & Experience

• Minimum of First Degree in Computer Science, Electrical / Electronic Engineering or related qualification
• Experience with mixed operating systems (e.g. Windows, Solaris, Linux, Red Hat etc)
• Certification in the above will be an added advantage
• Fluency in at least one high level programming language (e.g. PHP, Java) will be an added advantage
• Experience in configuration management of operating system platforms
• Experience in UNIX or Windows fleet management activities
• Understanding of virtualization technologies
• Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, webservers and LAN/WAN environments
• Knowledge of OS internals (file systems, storage, process lifecycle)
