Job Vacancy For Communications and Advocacy Officer At School for Life (SfL) – Tamale
School for Life (SfL) works to strengthen civil society's role in improving access to relevant quality basic education by functioning as a lead organization in delivery, demonstrating and advocating for mother tongue based complementary basic education in underserved areas of Ghana.
The programme is aimed at giving out-of-school children beyond school starting age an opportunity to attain basic literacy and numeracy in their mother longue. School for Life has since expanded upon its role in service delivery to advocate for changes to educational policy to ensure access to relevant quality basic education to promote and guide the implementation of the Complementary Basic Education (CBE) policy by the Government of Ghana, and to demonstrate and promote the CBE model
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Deputy Manager-Advocacy & Gender, the Communications and Advocacy Officer will be responsible for:
• Assisting in developing and implementing an advocacy and communications strategy in line with the E4L advocacy and communications strategies to support the SfL Strategic Plan
• Supporting the SfL Pedagogical Research Officer to undertake advocacy-based research
• Managing the SfL webpage, including the development of articles and content
• Contributing 10 improving, maintaining and supporting SfL relationship with the media (including print, radio, TV and internet based) in order to promote pro-poor education policies
• Assisting in organising and coordinating capacity building in advocacy for SfL field staff
• Assisting in monitoring and supporting local level advocacy
• Coordinating and assisting in the production of the SfL newsletter
• Responsible for completing monthly, quarterly, semiannual and annual reports
• Assisting in the coordination between partner organisations, including the CBE Alliance, to strengthen joint advocacy
• Facilitating regular and transparent communication with partners
Qualification Required & Experience
• A degree in communications, public relations, marketing, international development, education or other relevant field
• Experience in advocacy and strategic communications
• Excellent communications, networking, and inter- personal skills
• Proven writing skills
• Fully computer literate-skilled and a confident user of office applications such as MS Word, PowerPoint, email. Experience in uploading and developing materials for websites or social media
• Strong commitment and interest in child rights, gender equity and universal education
