The U.S. Embassy in Accra, Ghana is seeking an individual for the position of a COMPUTER MANAGEMENT ASSISTANT in the Information Systems Center of the Embassy.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

The incumbent provides computer maintenance and support for over 300 + OpenNet workstations and 4 Dedicated Internet Networks which has 50 additional unclassified workstations. S/he serves as back up to computer programmer with developmental responsibilities for the U. S. Embassy’s products Resource Booking, Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY) Control Sheet, Diplomatic Post Office (DPO), Cellphone Tracker, SharePoint, Dip Note and Contacts databases and fully supports further integration of the following Department products: WebPass/Eservices, ILMS, WINACS, WinT&A and COAST. S/he is responsible for analyzing, developing and maintaining detailed application programs to handle specific job functions and work requirements as may be determined by the Information Management Officer (IMO) or Information Systems Officer (ISO).

The incumbent assists Systems Specialist in monitoring OpenNet for software and hardware problems. S/he provides computer maintenance and assists in maintaining and administering Department of State-developed computer applications such as NEPA and ACRS; maintains a plan of action for server performance, back-ups and prevention of lost data; installs new hardware, software and applications as required; keeps up with new developments in software and hardware; and helps with records both electronic filing and inventory of supplies, spare parts and works with IRM Washington offices for parts replacement. Interprets processes, work flow and data modules as determined by the IMO or ISO.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   A degree in Computer Science or Systems Administration is required or allied training in computer related field such as certification in Microsoft MCSE courses or four to six years experience in Information Technology or Systems Administration is required.
•   Four to six years of progressive systems administration experience is required.
•   English level IV Fluent required. High degree of proficiency in both the written and spoken language, including the ability to translate. On occasion, the Job Holder may act as an interpreter. Language proficiency will be tested.
•   Must have knowledge of computer hardware and software capabilities. Must understand Local Area Network (LAN) topologies and the Microsoft operating systems and applications in use at post. Must have in –depth understanding of Archive Server Pages (ASP), Dream Weaver, Java Script, Cold Fusion, Structured Query Language (SQL) server and other allied software development tools.
•   Must be able to work with computer systems. Must be able to assist users and operators to learn and maximize the use of various computer systems and solve technical computer programming design and coding issues. Computer skills will be tested.

Starting Salary: GH¢28,111 p.a.
