Job Summary
The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer of the School of
Technology. The successful candidate will help shape the future of the school of technology in ways consistent with GIMPA's vision and strategic plan. It is expected that the newly appointed Dean will have a distinguished record of academic achievement and managerial
competence.The successful candidate shall report to the Rector through the Deputy Rector.
Major Responsibilities include:
• Shall be a member of the Executive Management Committee and Academic Board and contribute to Management decisions
• Develop and implement strategies to increase students enrollment and completion of the programmes they have registered for undergraduate and graduate programmes
• Oversee curriculum and faculty development and academic administration decisions
• Supervise the school's compliance of all standards of accreditation in its programmes
• Win external grants for research and administrative strengthening
• Oversee curriculum and faculty development and academic administration decisions
• Provide leadership and guidance in planning and implementation of activities for the school
• Make recommendations to the Academic Board for the development of plans for new programmes and refinement of existing programmes
• Perform any other incidental and related duties as directed by Management.
Qualification Required & Experience
• Minimum of Ph.D with specialization in any of the following areas: computer science, information systems/technology, computer engineering and related ones from a reputable university
• Should have eight years experience in higher education management, lectureship and research.
Technical Qualification:
• Knowledge and expertise of international accreditation systems
• Knowledge and experience of higher education administration Should be appointable at the rank of Senior Lecturer or higher
• Have a track record of research and publication
• Proven experience in the running and management of educational programmes
• Must be able to serve a full term of office for four (4) years before retirement.
• Retirement age is currently sixty (60) years
Managerial Competencies:
• Ability to influence faculty and staff towards achieving the school' strategic goals and the institute's at large
• Ability to explain the vision, values and standards of the Institute and set the appropriate examples
• Ability to initiate action and provide direction to others
• Ability to plan, organize, coordinate programmes and activities of staff, and also monitor performance of people and work progress
• Ability to identify and solve problems
• Ability to conduct and manage meetings effectively
• Ability to motivate and inspire others to perform their job professionally and diligently
• Ability to provide guidance and support to staff for their development
• Ability to exercise good judgment
• Ability to administer discipline when necessary
