URC and the USAID funded Ghana Systems for Health Project is recruiting for the under-listed position to be part of the project’s team.

•   Position:  Driver
•   Length of Contract: 1 Year, renewable
•   Reports To: Fleet/Transport Management Officer

Job Summary

•   The incumbent serves as a Driver running a project vehicle of USAID Systems for Health Project.  The position is located in the Operations Department.  Under the supervision of the Fleet/Transport Management Officer, the incumbent will implement and ensure adherence to administrative policies regarding the official running of project vehicles.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

•   Transport project staff to various locations where required by project needs
•   Ensure safe driving, respect local traffic laws and maintain approved speeds
•   Ensure all registration and insurance as required by local law are up to date and renewed as soon as necessary
•   Ensure that the car is constantly in good driving condition by maintaining a regular servicing schedule
•   Ensure that the car is well cleaned every morning
•   Ensure timely fuelling of the car to avoid delay of trips
•   Assist in enforcing the use of car only for work related purposes
•   Assist in enforcing that staff members abide by the local traffic laws such as wearing of seat belts
•   Ensure all non-employees sign a release waiver prior to boarding the vehicle
•   Ensure the car is always properly locked anytime not in use
•   Avoid recklessness or negligence of any that would endanger self or staff members
•   Report any incidents immediately to supervisor and/or local authorities as appropriate

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Education:  Completion of West African Senior School Certificate Education (WASSCE) is required.  Incumbent should have a valid driver’s license.  Certification in driver’s safety course or other road safety training desired.
•   Prior Work Experience:  Minimum of 5 years driving experience is required.  Must have experience driving within Accra and in the Regions of Ghana.
•   Job Knowledge:  Must be familiar with both local traffic regulations and be able to perform first line vehicle maintenance/repairs.
•   Skills & Abilities:  Job holder must be familiar with the different offices in the area of his location; must be familiar with the location of government ministries and major institutions.  Ability to take different routes in order to avoid traffic when undertaking assignment in order to make best use of time.  Plan ahead when undertaking field trip.
•   Language Proficiency:  Good working knowledge of English language is required.
