SEND GHANA is the oldest of the three affiliate national NGOs (i.e. SEND-Liberia and SEND Sierra Leone) established by the Social Enterprise Development of Foundation of West Africa ( SEND West Africa). SEND West Africa was founded in Ghana in August, 1998 to promote livelihood security, equality of women and men and accountable and transparent governance. The target groups of SEND’s programs are mostly women, youth and farmers in conflict prone , resource poor and difficult to reach communities in each country.

Job Title: Drivers (Operation Support Officers)

Job Description

People for health is a USAID funded project which will be implemented by a consortium led by SEND GHANA and including Penplusbytes and the Ghana News Agency (GNA). The 3 institutions will be offering a comprehensive and innovative approach to ensure that the People for Health project (P4H) delivers its intended results. The project will be implemented in 50 selected districts from Northern, Eastern, Volta, and Greater Accra regions in Ghana.

Our goal is to strengthen organizational and institutional capacities of both government and civil society for mutual accountability in health, HIV, WASH and nutrition policy formulation and implementation. Our technical approach for achieving the goals of People for Health (P4H) is based on Enhanced Social Accountability which blends SEND’s tried and tested Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation (PM&E) framework with consortium members’ methodologies. These are innovative technological approaches to increase citizens’ voices to demand for and champion improved access to and quality of health services. We will work through CSO and government partnerships at community, district, regional and national level

Objectives

•   Increase the capacity of CSOs to effectively advocate on key issues in the health and HIV sectors
•   mobilize and empower communities to demand better and equitable service delivery
•   Strengthen CSO demand for accountability, compliance and equitable service delivery

Reporting to:  Director of Finance & Operations

Job Summary

Ensure office staff are driven safely to meetings, workshops, and other work-related destinations; and that the vehicle under his/her custody is maintained in an optimal working condition.

Roles & Responsibilities

Logistical Support

•   Drives staff and other project officials to meetings, workshops and field trips.
•   Delivers letters, equipment and other packages; and maintains records of all deliveries and distributions.
•   Undertake airport pick-up duties.

Vehicle Maintenance

•   Ensures that all the required documents and other supplies including vehicle insurance, registration, logs, office directory, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts are in the assigned vehicle.
•   Arranges for regular maintenance, performs minor repairs, and ensures that the vehicle is kept clean and in good running condition at all times.
•   Ensures that, in the event of an accident involving the office vehicle, the necessary steps required by rules and regulations are followed.

Administrative Support

•   Maintains records for vehicles, logs official trips and records daily mileage.
•   Keeps track of insurance and other tax formalities.
•   Assist office staff in filing, photocopying and undertaking other administrative activities when required.
•   Assists in the mailing and distribution of newsletters and publications and arranges to pay office telephone and other bills, as required.
•   When appropriate, undertakes other related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Minimum of O’ level or Senior Secondary school certificate.
•   Valid driver’s license.
•   Defensive driving certificate.

Experience

•   5 years work experience as a driver in an NGO or an international organization with a good record on safe driving
•   Knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
•   Must be familiar with road sign and regulations
•   Skills in minor vehicle repairs
•   Should have basic skills in chauffeur protocol and courtesies

Skills and competencies

•   Fluency in oral and written English.
•   Elementary use of computers (e.g. email, internet, word processing)
