The Analyst will act as the Economist for the firm, and will be responsible for the Economic Desk of Research – undertake Macroeconomic Analysis & Forecasts, Fixed Income Strategy formulation, Currency and Commodities Research.  The Analyst will report to the Head of Research.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•   The economist will analyze a wide range of economies, markets and securities, (except for equities), across the Sub Saharan Africa (SSA) region; and communicate the analysis through regular reports to the firm and its clients including the media.
•   The analyst will provide macroeconomic, foreign exchange rate and interest rate, and commodity, forecasts for the firm.
•   The person will focus on analytical and policy matters of key relevance for the firm, and engage investors in discussion of same.
•   Conduct independent policy-relevant research, with a sound theoretical and practical blend as to how economies of SSA work.
•   Participate in conferences, seminars, and workshops to present and disseminate analytical works done by the desk and the firm, where required.
•   Other responsibilities assigned by the Head of Department or the executive team.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Bachelor’s degree (single major) in Economics.
•   A second degree in the field of Economics will be an advantage

Competencies

•   Excellent written and oral communication skills, Good public speaking skills, and ability to easily network with people
•   Drive for Results: takes personal ownership and accountability to meet deadlines and achieve agreed-upon results.
•   Practical understanding of how the economy and financial markets work
•   Understanding and passion for macroeconomic modeling, including the use of econometric software such as E-views, Stata etc.
