The Engineering and Research Manager shall report to the General Manager and shall be responsible for standards, design, research, implementation, construction, certification and maintenance of landfills, transfer stations, allied facilities and solid waste disposal systems within the organization.The selected candidate will

•   Develop, document and maintain standards, plans, strategies, policies and procedures in respect of the design, research, implementation, certification and maintenance of landfills, transfer stations, allied facilities and solid waste disposal systems
•   Design, plan, construct,
•   supervise, certify and maintain waste disposal facilities including access roads, landfills, and related sites and undertake decommissioning of waste disposal facilities as required.
•   Undertake pre-contract activities, tendering, contracting and post contract activities in relation to works and services undertaken by contractors, sub contractors, consultants and surveyors including the review of designs, work schedules and concerns and certification of works,
•   Undertake effective and timely overall planning, design and project management of the company's engineering development programs.
•   Undertake research to optimize, improve and innovate design, construction, operation and maintenance of solid waste disposal facilities and equipment.
•   Assist with business development in respect of opportunities for project planning and implementation in new markets.
•   Present periodic reports on departmental activities, projects and programs.

Qualification Required & Experience

The preferred candidate will have:

•   A university degree in Engineering, Environmental science or Construction or a related field with a minimum of eight years relevant experience, four of which preferably should have been in a supervisory position in a waste management or related facility or company OR a university degree in Engineering, Environmental science or Biochemistry or a related field plus a Masters degree in a relevant field and a minimum of six years relevant experience, three of which should have in a should have been in a supervisory position preferably in a waste management or related facility or company.
•   Experience with design and operation of solid waste disposal systems
•   Experience with management of civil engineering and allied projects
•   Strong leadership, monitoring and management skills; Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills; Good team playing skills; Good computer skills
