Job Vacancy For Chief of Party For Malaria Care Project At PATH Ghana

PATH seeks a Chief of Party (COP) to lead a new project in Ghana, implemented under the global MalariaCare partnership, a USAID - funded program available to support case management support to PMI focus and other countries.  MalariaCare aims to achieve universal diagnosis and appropriate case management for malaria by strengthening the capacity of malaria-affected countries at all levels of the health system to provide high-quality diagnostic and treatment services for malaria and other febrile illnesses.

Based in Accra, Ghana, the COP will be responsible for providing overall project leadership, management, and technical direction. Specific duties include the following:

•   Provide overall vision and strategy for the implementation and direction of all project activities.
•   Serve as the project's primary liaison with USAID Ghana, international and regional partners, and host-country government officials.
•   Act as primary liaison with the MalariaCare Washington DC office in technical and managerial matters.
•   Supervise project technical staff, including the Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP), and technical line managers, ensuring that they are successfully managing project activities and achieving deliverables.
•   Work with government counterparts in defining project activities and targets and ensure close collaboration.
•   Represent MalariaCare Ghana with technical working groups and in meetings with other donors, partners, and government officials.
•   Initiate and manage effective collaborative partnerships.
•   Identify best practices, and support the introduction and scale-up of technical interventions in malaria diagnostics and treatment.
•   Oversee annual project work planning and periodic reporting.
•   Oversees compliance with the goals set in the contract and with USAID regulations and PATH policies and systems.
•   Contribute to the design of project monitoring and evaluation systems and to regular project evaluations to assess progress and recommend solutions.
•   Represent the project at periodic meetings with stakeholders to report on planned activities and actions, including implementation status.

Required Skills

•   Demonstrated ability to lead and manage technical assistance teams and multi-partner collaborative projects.
•   Demonstrated ability to work and oversee interventions at both the central and community levels.
•   Demonstrated ability to work with USAID, implementing partners, Ghanaian Governmental organizations and institutions at the national and regional level, local nongovernmental organizations, and community-based organizations and structures.
•   Well balanced professional able to see the big picture with attention to detail.
•   Critical thinker, with the ability to lead a team toward innovation and creativity.
•   Strong mentoring and coaching skills.
•   Fluency in English required.
•   Ability to travel up to 30 percent in-country; limited international travel expected.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Doctor of Medicine (MD), with an advanced degree in public health, international development, or related field preferred A minimum of 10 years of experience in a leadership role working in technical assistance programs with substantial experience working in malaria control programs. Health systems strengthening experience strongly preferred. At least three years managing health projects, including direct supervision of professional and support staff, as a COP or DCOP, preferably in USAID-funded projects. Experience working in Africa, preferably in Ghana, required. Demonstrated experience in capacity building, supervision, and mentoring.
