Job Vacancy For Design Engineer At Ministry of Energy and Petroleum (Tamale)
The Government of the Republic of Ghana has received a grant funding support trom the Government of Switzerland, represented by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank toward the cost of the Ghana Energy Development and Access Project (GEDAP), and it intends to apply part of the funds to payments under the contracts for the Recruitment of Project Staff for NEDCO Project Implementation Unit
Responsibilities:
• The Design Engineer will report to the Project Coordinator and he /she will be responsible for ensuring that design activities of all NEDCo Capital Projects are conducted effectively and efficiently for the smooth take-of and implementation of all the projects,
• The Design Engineer will set up a Design Unit in the Project Implementation Unit {PIU) and lead the preparation and review of designs for all the NEDCo power distribution projects and provide support to the other units of the NEDCo PIU in the implementation and management of their activities,
• The Design Engineer will also establish close and cooperative working relationships with the heads of other sections of the PIU and NEDCo's Director, Engineering Services who is the Project Manager for all the NEDCo projects.
• Undertake any other responsibility that will ensure smooth and effective implementation of NEDCO's projects.
Remuneration: Competitive salary
Job Location: NEDCo Head Office, Tamale
Contract Duration: Two (2) years; with the possibility of renewal annually subject to satisfactory performance
Qualification Required & Experience
• Membership of the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhlE)
• BSc. Electrical Engineering Degree with at least 10 years proven post qualification experience in electrical engineering and design of distribution networks and substations. Masters degree in Electrical Engineering will be an advantage;
• Good knowledge of concepts and principles of electrical distribution networks and substations designs including protection, control and metering;
• Good knowledge and experience in construction of electrical distribution networks and installation of substation equipment including power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, protection and control and metering systems, grounding systems etc.
• A good working knowledge in International Standards such as IEC, ANSI, BSI, IEEE etc. and how to apply them
• Knowledge and experience in power distribution planning, construction and procurement will be an advantage
• Experience in witnessing Factory Acceptance Tests and undertaking testing and commissioning of electrical distribution equipment.
• Computer Literate
