The University of Ghana hereby, invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Director, Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy (CEDSA), to take effect from 1st August 2025.

POSITION: Director, Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy (CEDSA)
REPORTING TO: Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs
BRIEF ON CENTRE FOR DISABILITY STUDIES AND ADVOCACY (CEDSA) The establishment of the Centre for Disability Studies and Advocacy (CEDSA) was approved by the University Council in April 2022. CEDSA builds upon the existing structures and work of the University’s Office of Students with Special Needs (OSSN).

The Centre aims to ensure that the rights of and respect for persons with disabilities are institutionalized in the culture of the University and the society at large through high-quality research, teaching, learning and advocacy. This will be achieved through disability research, dissemination, advocacy, academic programmes and short courses/training and support services for students and staff with disabilities.

OBJECTIVES OF THE CENTRE:

• Strengthen and expand the provision of support services and adequate infrastructure for students and staff with disabilities.
• Promote research, documentation, and dissemination of disability related information.
• Promote advocacy on and initiate policies on disability.
• Develop and mount mostly graduate academic programmes and short courses/training on disability.
• Make University of Ghana progressively inclusive.

DUTIES

• The Director will provide leadership in the setting up of the newly established Centre and ensure implementation of the objectives and activities of the Centre.
• The Director is responsible for providing leadership to the Centre and for maintaining and promoting efficiency and good order in accordance with the policies and procedures prescribed by the University Act and Statutes, or as may
be determined by the Council, the Academic Board and the Centre Management Committee.
• The Director is to ensure that the approved programmes and functions of the
Centre are duly carried out by members of the Centre.
• The Director is also responsible for the general administration of the Centre in respect of human, financial and material resources within the general framework of University policy.
For the purposes of the development of relevant graduate and short courses, the Director will work through the College of Humanities.

Qualification Required & Experience

The successful candidate must:

• be of professorial status from an academic/research institution or a person from industry eligible for that position.
• be capable of providing academic leadership especially in the area of teaching, research and extension in the relevant disciplines.
• provide evidence of managerial and administrative leadership and capacity to promote a collegial working environment in the Centre.
• demonstrate capacity to attract funding for research and development.
• have the vision and the drive to oversee the growth and development of the Centre.

SALARY

Attractive with fringe benefits including market premium, rent, security and responsibility allowance.

TENURE

The person appointed as Director must be able to hold office for a period of three years on terms and conditions recommended by the Appointments Board, before reaching the statutory retirement age of 60 years, and may be eligible for re-appointment for a further term of up to three years.
