Job Vacancy For Director of Energy Division At Ministry of Justice and Attorney General’s Department



Duties and Responsibilities

The Energy Division of the Attorney-General’s Department specialises in energy law, including the law relating to upstream and downstream petroleum activities and the supply and distribution of electricity. The Director of the Energy Division is the Head of the Division and oversees the activities and programmes of the Division. In particular, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

Advising the Attorney-General and other Ministries, Departments and Agencies on matters relating to Energy, oil and Gas Law;

•   Assisting in the negotiation, preparation and finalization of petroleum and energy agreements;
•   Providing legal opinions on petroleum, energy and related agreements;
•   Advise on energy related disputes in both foreign and local courts and represent government in arbitral proceedings;
•   Co-ordinate all the activities of the Energy Division; and
•   Any other duties that may be assigned to him/her by the Attorney-General

Qualification Required & Experience

•   The successful candidate must be a lawyer with not less than twelve (12) years standing at the Ghana Bar and a minimum of five years practical experience in the practice of energy and or petroleum law or in working with an organisation, Ministry, Department or Agency dealing with energy and petroleum matters. A Master’s degree in Law of Energy, Petroleum or Oil and Gas will be an added advantage.
•   He or she must also have excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills and must be knowledgeable in the use of information and communication technology (lCT) tools. The nature of work at the Ministry of Justice and Attorney-General’s Department demands that the successful candidate must also be a team player.
