Job Vacancy For Director of Research At University of Professional Studies



The University wishes to invite applications from suitably qualified persons who are goal oriented and results driven with exceptional leadership qualities for appointment to the above position.

Main Function:
The Director shall provide research leadership to the University and shall be capable of maintaining confidence and cooperation of the Research Directorate. Manage effectively and efficiently, research programs and administrative affairs of the Research of Directorate.

The Director shall also lead and oversee the prospect of research findings, supervise the research staff and work closely with Business Development officers as a partner in helping them achieve their fundraising goals. He/she shall be responsible for creating an environment conducive for intellectual and research growth in the University and enhance its image through research activities.

Specific Key Task:

•   Lead the strategic planning of the Research Directorate to ensure that its objectives are aligned with the overall University’s Strategic Plan
•   Promote and facilitate leading-edge research, including collaboratively and interdisciplinary research, in areas related to the goals of the University
•   Build and provide sufficient support for a community of innovative researchers to enhance research capacity of the University and to increase internal and external research opportunities for faculty and graduate students
•   Develop networks between the Research Directorate and researchers in the field of public and private sectors, locally, nationally and internationally
•   Supervise the effective continual management of the University’s Journal of Business Research (JBR) and other institutional research activities including: tracer studies, staff satisfaction surveys and students’ exits surveys
•   Develop and oversee budgets, policies and procedures for the Research Department
•   Evaluate research tools and emerging technology and coordinate vendor relations
•   Develop mutually beneficial linkages with other institutions in order to develop partnerships and collaborative research
•   Communicate research findings to the society through outreach programmes, collaborative research, seminars, workshops, lecturers, websites, publications and commercialization of intellectural property
•   Provide interdisciplinary research training and mentoring for undergraduate and graduate students
•   Updates Management regularly on the activities of the Research Centre
•   Manage research plan effectively and efficiently by ensuring that accepted standards of research and ethical behaviour are met
•   Develop strategies for raising funds for research work by collaborating with the Alumni office and Business Development Unit

Qualification Required & Experience

A minimum of PhD in any disciplinary relevant to the position with at least 10 years relevant working experience in a similar position in a reputable organization or research institution preferably in Higher Education Institution (HEI). Relevant international experience would be an added advantage.

Competencies and Skills:

•   Demonstrate leadership skills
•   Strong analytical skills, including expertise in the modeling and analysis of data
•   Proficiency in conceptualizing and developing proactive prospecting methodologies using such tools as data mining, electronic and peer screenings
•   Ability to analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, trend reports, research agenda
•   High level consultation and negotiation skills
•   Excellent interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated capacity to effectively work cooperatively
