Job Vacancy For Education Specialist At Worldreader Ghana



Worldreader, an exciting US- and Barcelona-based social enterprise whose mission is to make digital books available to all in the developing world using mobile and e-reader technology, is looking for a part-time Education Specialist for Worldreader Ghana.

The Education Specialist will be responsible for providing leadership in the development and implementation of programs focused on achieving the best educational outcomes for early grade students in the context of an e-reader program.

The Education Specialist will be based in Accra, but will be required to travel to schools outside Accra regularly. Serving as the early-grade literacy expert on the team and reporting to the Country Director, the Education Specialist has the following categories of responsibilities:

Program Development and Continuing Improvement:

•  Conceive, create, and maintain lessons plans, programs, courses, and activities that focus on literacy improvement for early grade students
•  Work with the Country Director to develop policies and program improvement, offering education expertise and insights collected from school visits and classroom observations, and by interacting with teachers, project coordinators, and students
•  Serve as a resource to the Publishing Team by reviewing and recommending books and other reading materials that are age-appropriate and culturally relevant to early grade students
•  Provide feedback on monitoring and evaluation/student assessment efforts; and working with the Research Director, use collected data to inform program development

Teacher Training Development and Implementation:

•  Work in close collaboration with literacy experts to strengthen the use of phonics and other literacy instructions through teacher training workshops, refresher workshops, and biweekly, onsite teacher check-ins
•  Work in close collaboration with team to coordinate the development and implementation of teacher and e-reader trainings
•  Out-Of-Classroom Experience (OCE) Development and Implementation
•  Develop and design lessons plans for early grade students
•  Identify personnel to coordinate and execute ongoing OCE activities
•  Develop reports regarding OCE experience, detailing observations, challenges and opportunities

External Relations:

•  Serve as a resource to the Publishing Team  by identifying local publishers that can partner with Worldreader
•  Maintain ongoing relationships with key stakeholders, which include district assembly and district education officials
•  Pursue, develop and maintain meaningful and formal partnerships with literacy experts, Government, NGOs, research institutes and other stakeholders that complement Worldreader

Qualification Required & Experience

Desired Skills & Experience
We are looking for a professional with background in education with a high degree of professional maturity, self-motivation and adaptability. The ideal candidate possesses the following qualifications:

•  Bachelor’s degree certificate in education, or trained as GES Educator with a minimum of three years of professional education experience which includes coordinating/conducting school and/or system-wide professional learning activities
•  A minimum of 3-5 years of experience teaching and working with students aged 6-8 years in a school environment (ideally local)
•  Knowledge of best teaching practices associated with student learning and knowledge of current research on scientifically-based research practices for improving teaching and learning
•  Experience with teaching practices that encourage critical thinking, role-playing, creativity, interactive learning, problem solving and positive responses
•  3-5 years of experience teaching phonics in early reading such as letter reading, sounding letters and spellings
•  Literacy monitoring and evaluation experience/knowledge highly desirable
•  Experience using NALAP learning and training materials to teach early graders
•  Structured and organized thinker with great verbal and written communication skills
•  Proficient in Word, Excel, and productivity/communication tools such as Skype
•  Experience in working on educational projects in impoverished towns and villages a plus
•  Proficient in English and other local dialects
•  Excellent interpersonal skills and good rapport with children
•  Demonstrable passion for education and the mission of Worldreader
