WACCI (
www.wacci.edu.gh) is a semi-autonomous Centre in the University of Ghana established with funding from AGRA (
www.agra-alliance.org) to train a new generation of Plant Breeders at the PhD level. Currently, 54 students from eight countries (Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal) are enrolled.
Job Summary
The Centre is seeking a highly motivated person for the above role.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient and effective management of the finance function at the Centre and will report to the Director or his representative. The employment will be for an initial period of two years begining August 1, 2013.
Main Responsibilities:
• Financial planning and control, including cash flow management
• Preparation and submission of timely and accurate financial reports to Management and donors
• Proper management of donor funds in strict adherence to donor grant agreements
• Processing of payroll and general payments
• Preparation of budgets and regular expenditure plans and variance reports
• Preparation of long term financial forecasts for review and approval by management
• Liaising with auditors to ensure timely and accurate completion of internal and external audits
• Assisting in the development of proposals to source for additional funding for the Centre
• Preparation of monthly bank reconciliation statements
• Preparation and filling of monthly statutory returns
• Ensuring safe custody of non-current assets by maintaining an accurate assets register
• Any other duties as may be assigned by the Director or his representative
Qualification Required & Experience
• A bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field from a recognized University
• Post-graduate degree in Finance and/or additional professional accounting qualification will be an advantage
• At least two years relevant working experience in an academic institution, project, public sector agency, non-governmental organisation, private sector company or multinational organisation
• Knowledge of computerised accounting systems-proficiency in Sage Pastel ERP accounting software is an advantage
• Excellent communication skills (spoken and written English)
