A social enterprise that focuses on providing affordable lighting and phone charging products specifically for low income populations that do not have access to electricity is seeking to recruit an exceptional candidate as its General Manager, Ghana with the potential to become Regional Manager of West Africa.
The ideal candidate will have full responsibility and should have the necessary skills, ability and confidence to maintain the leadership position of the Ghana Office.
Key Responsibilities:
• Monitor and manage risks and issues.
• Maintain and develop links and partnerships with other organisations and agencies including funders and the wider community energy movement.
• Responsible for day-to-day communications to members, volunteers, supporters and the public.
• Develop volunteering opportunities.
• Develop plans to generate additional income within the framework of our business plan.
• Support the Board to develop strategy
• Executive decision making and oversight to deliver objectives set by the Board
• Supporting the Board to oversee the organisation and manage day to day operations
• Reporting to Directors and other meetings as required.
• Evaluating and planning work programme, including annual review of the post
• Undertaking own administration (IT equipment supplied).
• Participating in appropriate training
• Identify outlets for consumer goods and possible corporate clients
• Ensure sales and profitability of the organization
• Prepare regular reports for the board of directors
• Manage staff and oversee general administration
• Conduct marketing and PR activities for the company
• Delegate tasks and ensure completion
• Co-ordinate and support several projects concurrently
Qualification & Experience
• Educational background flexible once there is track record to prove capabilities.
• General knowledge of market processes
• Ability to communicate effectively in French is a plus
• Must have trade experience in the region/ background in regional trade
• Sales oriented, should be able to provide / generate sales leads
• Must have a strong entrepreneurial drive, possess the ability to work independently and report to Superiors outside the country.
• Some recruitment / HR experience will be relevant or demonstrate the capacity for both
• Must be an independent thinker with good / strong analytical skills especially for mobilizing the right kind of people to work with
• Good understanding of the NGO role in the market will be an advantage (from hospitals and schools) or a UN type background
• Must have trade experience in the region/ background in regional trade
• Some knowledge of Contracting and importing through the ports in the region and knowledge of shipping companies and trade routes in the region
• Sales and marketing background especially from B2B business, consumer goods and durables ideally electronics
• Knowledge / experience in the Renewable Energy sector would be a plus
• Strong people management skills to know the type of individuals he/she requires to build the team / operate the office in Ghana, the individual will eventually set up the finance, logistics and other department of the office in Ghana
• Knowledge of international working environment giving that the individual will be reporting to superiors outside the country
