Job Summary

In January 2012, IRC opened its first branch office in Ghana. To help achieve its ambitions in Ghana, IRC is currently seeking candidates for the position of Head of Programme

The preferred candidate will support the Country Director in the implementation of IRC Ghana's country programme including coordinating the implementation of all IRC related projects and programmes in Ghana. S/he will assist in the management of the Ghana office and an IRC-Ghana 'country team' of directly employed national staff in line with IRe's vision, mission and objectives.

The Responsibilities:

The Head of Programme (HoP) is functionally accountable to the Country Director. S/he will be part of the IRC Ghana management team and will be responsible for strategic programme development and governance, oversee resource management and formation planning, and programme level monitoring, reporting, learning and linkage with WASH sector policy. Specifically, the Head of Programme's broad functions will include but not limited to:

•   Coordinate IRC Ghana Programmes
•   Responsible for strategic programme development and governance including oversight for smooth implementation of short to medium term projects in accordance with their respective planning, approaches and timelines
•   Resource management and formation planning
•   Oversee financial management (planning and control processes) within the strategic framework of IRC Ghana
•   Programme level monitoring, learning and linkage with WASH sector policy
•   Responsible for quality assurance and timely delivery of IRC Ghana programmes reporting including reports to financiers/partners
•   Responsible for business development, Fundraising and resource mobilization
•   Manage contracts of IRC Ghana associates, consultants and interns
•   Deputise in the absence of Country Director
•   Support the Country Director to oversee IRC Ghana departments and programmes
•   Oversee HR, Facilities and Operations management.

Contract Period:
The position will be for an initial two year renewable contract, subject to good performance.

Monthly Renumeration:

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Extensive Project Management experience (minimum 10 years) preferably in multi-country and / or multi- partner projects, including knowledge of project management systems and programmes at progressively senior levels of programme management.
•   Minimum Master's level in (project) management or any related degree and/ or experience
•   Good knowledge of relevant areas of Ghanaian law including finance; employment and contracts
•   Additional knowledge of and experience with WASH is considered as an advantage
•   Excellent communication and intercultural skills and a well-developed competence in partner/professional relations management.
•   High energy levels, persistence, flexibility, sense of responsibility and the capacity to motivate team members.
•   Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience and knowledge of working in a multiple donor based/ NGO environment
•   The willingness to travel frequently both within Ghana and internationally
•   Ability to work in multi-cultural and racial environment
•   Ghanaian nationality
