Description Of Job

Location:  Accra with occasional travels to Sekondi - Takoradi
Duration:  One Year Contract - Renewable on Annual Basis upon Satisfactory Performance

Reports To: Program Director (WASH-UP)

Background:
CHF International is seeking a Hygiene & Sanitation Promotion Specialist for the implementation of key activity components of the CHF International program “Water Access, Sanitation and Hygiene for Urban Poor (WASH-UP)” funded by USAID. The program will provide targeted technical and organizational capacity building and funding to local intermediaries to increase access to improved water and sanitation infrastructure and promote better hygiene.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•  Review current Hygiene & Sanitation Promotion strategies, work together with the programmatic teams to design formative research to identify and prioritize current barriers to behavior change and inform BCC Hygiene & Sanitation Promotion campaign development;
•  Conduct an extensive review and analysis of strengths and weaknesses of partner NGO Hygiene & Sanitation Promotion tools, methods and capacities;
•  Review documentation of resources/ Consultants used as required for all aspects of Hygiene & Sanitation Promotion content creative development  and implementation;
•  Based on evidence, design comprehensive integrated strategies to address priority barriers to behavior change; work with programs teams to develop clear creative briefs and budget to design campaign elements;
•  Work with the programs team to identify key partners important to the design and implementation of Hygiene & Sanitation Promotion campaigns and ensure they are implicated in the design and implementation of activities;
•  Actively seek to identify local NGO partners for sub-contracting portions of Hygiene & Sanitation Promotion work;
•  Manage USAID branding in the Hygiene & Sanitation Promotion aspect of the project as well as assist in effective communication concerning projects to the general public;
•  Build practical Hygiene & Sanitation Promotion capacities of current CHF team and NGO partners;
•  Help lead the Hygiene & Sanitation Promotion teams of NGO partners to develop high-quality evidence based interventions that will produce measurable changes in the behavior of target populations, through the utilization of both mass media and interpersonal communications;
•  Prepare reports to suit different audiences and co-author articles to be published on the basis of research findings;
•  Document all processes and outputs and lessons learnt on Hygiene & Sanitation Promotion interventions.

Qualification Required & Experience

Qualifications:

•  A post graduate degree in Health Promotion Sciences, Communications, or related field;
•  At least 6 years experience in behavior change programming in Ghana or a Masters degree and 3 years experience, preferably with specific experience in a US government supported project(s);
•  Proven experience in designing integrated strategies and campaigns, utilizing various channels of communication: radio, television, publishing, interactive media (radio, internet, email, post), peer education, mobile video units, faith – based and special interest NGOs. Must have experience with entire process from creative brief to finished product, including formative and evaluative research design;
•  Ideally, experience with social marketing though the private sector;
•  Strong organizational and interpersonal skills;
•  Ability to work in a team oriented setting;
•  Excellent oral and written communications skills in English language;
•  High degree of computer literacy; MS Excel and MS Word are essential; and
•  Excellent organizational skills and ability to determine priorities and respect deadlines.
