Global Health Systems Solutions (GHSS) is a non-governmental and non-profit making organization dedicated to seeking innovative solutions to strengthen health systems in developing countries for effective service delivery and surveillance of infectious, non-infectious, and neglected tropical diseases. We focus in three key areas: improve laboratory systems and services critical for disease management, surveillance, and prevention; enhance field surveillance and epidemiological training for relevant animal and human health to mitigate threats posed by diseases; and improve service delivery at all health levels. Our major collaborators include Ministries of Health, the World Health Organisation, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and several bi-lateral organizations.
Job Summary
Purpose:
We are currently seeking an outstanding individual to GHSS as the Laboratory Programs Coordinator for the Ghana office.
Reporting directly to the GHSS Laboratory Programs Manager, the successful candidate shall coordinate the implementation of all GHSS laboratory programs in Ghana by:
• Supporting the development and implementation of work plans for all programs
• Overseeing and coordinating the day to day activities of all laboratory programs
• Supervising Mentors and other technical staff
• Submitting detailed reports of all activities to Laboratory Programs Manager.
The employee shall participate in the following programs areas:
• Support the implementation of the WHO-AFRO stepwise accreditation program
• Support the implementation of PT programs for Dried Tube Specimens and Digital PT for chemistry and haematology and standardized logbook programs by the National Public Health Reference Lab
• Support the implementation of Basic Laboratory Information systems (BLIS) at selected sites by supervising day to day implementation of work plans and review of program reports
• Support Continuing Professional Development activities of GHSS technical staff through the organization and conducting of training activities.
• Provide Laboratory Programs Manager with all requested information for preparation of monthly technical reports and other final deliverables using a format and software programs agreed to in advance by GHSS in a timely manner.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Programs Manager or the Country Director of GHSS Ghana
Qualification Required & Experience
The successful candidate should have:
• A Masters degree in Biomedical Sciences or Public Health
• Five years experience working up to senior management level
• Experience working in a laboratory setting
• Experience in facilitating workshops and trainings
• Experience in giving oral presentations to a variety of audiences
• Evidence of good report writing
• Ability to supervise and give direction to subordinates
• Excellent computer skills
• Excellent people skills and ability to work in a team.
