Department : Legal and Regulatory
Position Grade: Senior Manager
Reports To: Managing Director
Purpose of Role:
Lead and manage the legal affairs of Expresso Ghana and provide sound legal advice to ensure good legal practice and regulatory compliance to protect the interest of the company.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage the legal affairs of the Company
• Provide sound legal advice to senior management to ensure good legal practice and regulatory compliance
• Prepare and negotiate various operational and contractual agreements
• Ensure the business operates within the industry’s legal and regulatory compliance framework
• Advise on strategy for dealing with governmental agencies, regulatory bodies and relevant authorities
• Manage external legal service providers
• Oversee litigation/proceedings, corporate entity maintenance and other matters in conjunction with external Lawyers and Corporate office
• Engage and oversee legal due diligence of projects where the need be
• Keep the Managing Director and members of the management team informed and updated on legislatives matters relating to the Company’s business
• Performs Company legal secretarial duties
• Provide legal Advice to the HR deparment on employment issues
• Represent the company as poxy MD at the Telecoms Chamber
• Acts as key interface on matters relating to the National Communications Authority
Qualification Required & Experience
• LLB degree, Masters degree in Law or in a related field (a plus)
• Barrister at Law certificate
• Membership of the Ghana Bar Association
• 8 years of legal practice, at least 4 of which should be in corporate practice
• Ability to conduct research and unite coherent legal opinion and report
• Demonstrated ability to draft effective pleadings
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Assertive and ability to provide independent advice
• Demonstrated success in conducting a variety of litigation issues
• Strong leadership skills
• Knowledge and experience in commercial contract preparation, negotiation and Administration
• Result orientation and high Degree of integrity
• Knowledge of telecoms laws and regulations will be an added advantage
• Familiarity with Ghanaian employment laws
