Abosso Goldfields Ltd, a subsidiary of Gold Fields Limited. Located in a tropical climate, the Damang Gold Mine is a world-class operation,consisting of 25 Mtpa open pit-mining operations and a 5.2 Mtpa CIL metallurgical plant. The mine is situated in the Western Region of Ghana and is ISO 14001 and OHSAS18001 certificated. It has a current Life of Mine expectency to the year 2019 and beyond.

Description Of Job

Purpose of the Job:
A self motivated person is required to manage a multi-faceted and multi-cultural production teams (Safety, Drill & Blast, Load & Haul, Technical Services and Secondary works including dewatering) to achieve the required production targets within the constraints of the budget. The incumbent will be responsible for the preparation of both medium and long term plans, management systems, processes and policies in order to optimise the achievement of production targets while at the same time meeting the high safety and environmental targets of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

•  Ensuring the preparation and implementation of production plans and strategies for the safe achievement of production targets
•  Directs, manages and controls the business units within the parameters of the strategic plan and has recourse to the General Manager for guidance and any ratification
•  Aligns the vision and objectives of the Business Unit in order to maximize production and ensure longevity by developing a strategic plan and putting systems in place to deliver on the plan
•  Preparation and analysis of the business unit's performance, identifies constraints and institutes appropriate action plans to rectify constraints and all deviations
•  Provides the leadership within the business unit to identify the required change management and intervention processes in order to establish a value-driven culture
•  Create a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the business unit and actively encourage his team to align their effort to the overall objectives of the department
•  Ensures quality mining by the efficient and effective application of both human and material resources
•  Maintain a safe and friendly environment ensuring that effective Mining standards and procedures are developed and implemented in compliance with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 requirements
•  Carries all legal responsibilities for the mining operations
•  Developing and implementing effective maintenance standards and procedures

Qualification Required & Experience

Key Requirements:

•  A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or any relevant discipline
•  Demonstrable understanding of relevant applicable legislations and Mining Regulations
•  Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency
•  Demonstrable understanding and experience of open pit mining operations
•  Computer literacy and experience in the use of mining softwares
•  Good management and people skills and ability to lead and motivate production team(s)
•  A hands-on approach and be willing to work long hours to obtain the required results
•  Well developed oral and written communication skills (English proficiency)
•  Medical fitness for the position and environment
•  Valid Ghanaian driver's licence
•  Minimum of 5 years appropriate Managerial experience in Mining
