UNV Assignment Title: Project Assistant - Governance
Type of Assignment: National UN Volunteer

Brief Project Description:
In its governance and peace strategy, UNDP is conscious of the political dimensions of development, and has assessed that the capacity of national institutions to promote peace and governance will improve at the same time as the capacity of citizens to demand for it is enhanced. This strategy of simultaneous top-down and bottom-up approaches, lubricated by peace building interventions, such as dialogue, trust-building and consensus seeking, will result in effective partnerships among rights-holders and duty-bearers.
The UNDP Ghana's 2012 Representation and Participation (R&P) Annual Work Plan (AWP) builds on initiatives implemented under the 2006-2011 United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) that focused capacity building, advocacy and the creation of platforms for dialogue. The current AWP is in full alignment with the UNDAF 2012-2016 thematic areas, development agenda reflected in the Ghana Shared Growth and Development Agenda (GSGDA).
The 2012 R&P programme, supports interventions in various governance areas, including civic participation in the electoral process, particularly of women and vulnerable groups, elections administration, voter education, media capacity building, and constitutional reforms. Additionally, this programme lays the basis for future programmes in other key governance areas, including decentralization policy and reforms implementation, through the creation of baselines, partnerships, platforms and other important architectural elements to underpin work over the remaining four years of the UNDAF.
