Job Vacancy For Project Manager (Construction) At Palladium Group (Brong Ahafo Region)

The Palladium Group with funding from DFID request for application from qualified individuals to fill vacant position on the Ghana Adolescent Reproductive Health (GHARH) Project.

Position Summary:

•   The project recognises the value and importance of providing adolescent friendly health facilities (adolescent corners) for the young people in the Brong Ahafo Region.
•   An initial assessment of the existing adolescent corners showed that they were in farying states of physical readiness to begin providing services to young people.
•   A number needed refurbishment and supply of equipment/materials to make them operational, but many more require complete renovation/refurbishment (re-roofing, ceiling repairs, painting, flooring etc.) to make them functional and adolescent-friendly.
•   We are currently seeking to engage the services of a Project Manager to oversee all renovation and maintenance works required to be carried out on the adolescent corners in 27 districts across the Brong Ahafo Region. This is a short-term position for a fixed term of 3 months. The position holder will report to the GHARH Team Leader through the Regional Representative.

Key Responsibilities:

The Project Manager will join the GHARH Project Team on a short term basis to provide construction project management support required for the renovation of all the adolescent corners in the Brong Ahafo Region. The Project Manager will be responsible for the following:

•   Plan, organise, and direct activities concerned with the refurbishment works on adolescent corners.
•   Prepare a detailed timeline/Gantt chart to show when each stage must be completed if the proposed deadline is to be met.
•   Inspect and review project sites to monitor compliance with building and safety codes, and other local regulations.
•   Develop and implement quality control measures for all sites.
•   Determine the permits necessary for the project.
•   Prepare a detailed plan to allocate the available funds by stage or by labor, materials and contingencies.
•   Negotiate with vendors and suppliers to obtain the best price and delivery schedule where necessary.
•   Take responsibility for full delivery of 53 refurbishment adolescent corners, working in close liaison with sub-contractors under the project and the assigned project Engineer.
•   Interview and select personnel required to work on the various construction sites (as required depending on their scope of work).
•   Take responsibility for explaining worksite policy, project goals and safety procedures to all site workers.
•   In collaboration with the Engineer revise work schedules as may be necessary throughout the process to ensure that the deadline can still be met
•   Organise all necessary project activities that may be required as well as meeting with supervisors to review goals and progress the refurbishment work.
•   Liaise closely with the Engineer and contractors to deliver all aspects of the refurbishment work and submit periodic reports to the GHARH Team Leader through the Regional Representative.

Period of Engagement: 3 months with a possibility to extend depending on the exigencies of the renovation project.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma in Building & Construction, Engineering or Architecture.
•   10 years professional construction management experience.
•   Thorough understanding of contractual agreements and the ability to read and interpret complex Scope of Work documents including technical drawings specifications etc.
•   Proven experience of initiating local purchase orders for the procurement of required materials
•   Demonstrable skills in sourcing and securing supplier agreements.
•   Strong financial, analytical and negotiation skills.
•   Strong people management and leadership skills.
•   Ability to work independently, under pressure and within tight deadlines.
•   Strong problem-solving. decision-making and judgement skills.
•   Experience of recruiting staff for construction projects,
•   Ability to analyse and follow market trends.
•   Ability to analyse industry prices and price trends and compare with actual supplier prices.
•   Familiarity with international best practice in procurement of goods and services.
•   Attention to detail and ability to effectively perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
•   Good communication and interpersonal skills.
