The Regional Maritime University (RMU), Accra, Ghana, is a five-Member-State Premier Sub-Regional Institution that operates in a very dynamic maritime industry and education environment. The Board of Governors of the University invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Rector, who will lead the University into the future with a business spirit to embrace current and future opportunities within the maritime sector.

Qualification Required & Experience

Person Specification - Rector:
The Person must possess a Masters Degree, but preferably a Doctoral Degree from a recognized institution in the relevant field, either in higher education or in a relevant industrial field with substantial years of post-qualification working experience in an academic setting;

Given the Board's priorities, the candidate must demonstrate evidence of having:

•  Strong academic or industry credibility in an international context;
•  An understanding of the environment and challenges in which higher education and research is conducted at similar institutions;
•  The vision and intellectual depth needed to maintain the University on a path of consistent growth in accordance with the best global standards;
•  Proven leadership and executive level success in a medium to large organisation, with the ability to lead, motivate, generate trust in a collegial environment, create an empowered work force at all levels of the organization, exercise efficient and prudent stewardship over resources, and substantial fundraising skills;
•  Excellent communication (including listening) and team-building skills;
•  The ability to inspire confidence amongst Member States, sponsors, donors, faculty, staff and students and to initiate, sustain and improve beneficial relationships with a range of stakeholders;
•  The ability to deliver on necessary change with the associated change management skills;
•  The sense of judgement and experience to deal effectively at the highest levels with government, public sector bodies, business, other academic and Regional/International bodies of organisations;
•  The energy and stamina to cope with all demands of the role
