The Ghana Health Service is an autonomous Agency of the Ministry of Health responsible for providing and prudently managing comprehensive and accessible health service at Regional, District and Sub-district levels in accordance with approved national policies. To achieve this, the GHS must attract and appoint suitably qualified personnel to carry out its mandate at various operational levels.
Job Summary
The Ghana Health Service invites applications from suitably qualified Ghanaians who are goal-orineted, results-driven with exceptional leadership qualities for appointment to the above mentioned position.
Job Purpose:
To provide strategic leadership, administrative and technical direction for the achievement of the mandate of the GHS in the Regions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Co-ordinates the implementation of all decisions of the Regional Health Service Council;
• Exercises oversight responsibility for the efficient and effective management of the human material and financial resources of the GHS in the Regions
• Co-ordinates the development and implementation of systems for monitoring and evaluation of clinical care and public health programmes in the Region
• Leads in the planning and co-ordination of capital development projects of health facilities in the Regions;
• Ensures efficient management systems with health institutions in the Region;
• Ensures the execution of performance contracts signed with the districts and other health service providers in the region;
• Represents the service at the regional level on matters concerning the Serviced developmental projects and operations;
• Oversees plan and budget preparation and implementation as well as control and monitoring of finances in the Regional Health Directorate
• Ensures the development and effective management of the financial and human resource in the region;
• Promote the corporate image of the Ghana Health Service in the Region;
• Co-ordinates the implementation and evaluation of national health policies in the Regions;
• Contributes to policy development, analysis and review in the Ghana Health Service;
• Contributes to the development of medium/long term strategic plans for the GHS
• Performs any other duties that be assigned from time-to-time
Terms of Appointment: Applicant must be eligible and capable of serving a full term of four (4) years before attaining the compulsory retiring age of sixty (60) years

Qualification Required & Experience
Person Specification:
• Must be a Fellow of a Post-graduate Medical College with a minimum of ten (10) years practice as a health practitioner, five (5) years of which must be in a Senior Management position, preferably in the Public Health Sector
• Must be a member of good standing with the Medical and Dental Council
• Must have considerable strategic, interpersonal and analytical skills and deep understanding and appreciation of the strategic and operational challenges in the Health Sector
• Must be performance-driven and keen to achieve results
