The Institution:
The University of Ghana was established in 1948 to provide higher education, undertake research, disseminate knowledge and to foster relationships with outside persons and bodies. It currently has a student population of over 38,000 to 5,000 employees (Basic Statistics, 2011)
Description Of Job
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Registrar, which will become vacant on 1st August, 2013.
The Position:
The Registrar who is the Chief Operating Officer, is responsible for the day to day operations of the University under the Vice-Chancellor and in accordance with policy directives of the Council.
• The Registrar is also Secretary to the Office of the Chancellor, the University Council and the Academic Board
• She/he strategic advice and briefings to the Vice-Chancellor and is expected to provide leadership and management across a wide range of activities
Qualification Required & Experience
Qualified applicants must have the following:
Either:
• At least a Master's Degree in a relevant field with not less than 15 years post qualification experience
• Or Senior Management experience in a large, complex and decentralized organization, preferably in an academic institution
And:
• Strong intellect with excellent managerial, communication and interpersonal skills,
• A deed appreciation of the academic working environment and the Basic Laws of the University of Ghana
• Be principled with strong and proven sense of public morality and integrity,
• An understanding of the history and evolution of universities, local higher education policy and practice,
• Considerable experience in dealing with a wide variety of internal and external publics
• Be at an age which makes it possible for one to serve in the position for at least four (4) years before reaching the compulsory retiring age of sixty (60)
