Reports to: PNEP Project Director with direction from PNEP Evaluation Lead

The Partnership

The SickKids-Ghana Paediatric Nursing Education Partnership (PNEP) is a Ghanaian and Canadian led effort to strengthen the capacity of Ghanaian institutions to educate health workers and reduce newborn and child mortality and morbidity, especially in underserved districts in Ghana. The purpose of the PNEP is to deliver specialized, paediatric education to nurses and midwives to improve the quality of care of children and their families.

The Role

Reporting to the PNEP Project Director and working closely with the PNEP Evaluation Lead, Project Management and Professional Practice teams in Ghana and Canada, the Research &Evaluation Coordinatoris responsible for knowledge translation, monitoring, evaluation and research activities related to the PNEP. The individual will combine solid administrative and computer skills with interest and abilities in proposal writing, data collection, clinical and academic research, as well as project monitoring and evaluation.

Responsibilities:

•   Supports assembly of the PNEP Research & Evaluation Committee and associated events/workshops
•   Works with PNEP Research & Evaluation Committee and Project Teams in development of the PNEP evaluation strategy, and executes evaluation activity as outlined in the project work plan
•   Collaborates with the PNEP Research & Evaluation Committee and Project Teams to develop data collection, research and evaluation tools
•   Leads the development of PNEP REB proposals required at SickKids and in Ghana
•   Preparespreliminary internal and external reports on Knowledge Translation strategies and materials in collaboration with the PNEP Research &Evaluation Committee and Project Teams
•   Supportsthe PNEP Research & Evaluation Committee andProject Teams in Canada and Ghana to write evaluation reports, project reports and publications
•   Maintains regular communication (e.g. teleconferences, team meetings) with the PNEP Research & Evaluation Committee and Project Teams in Ghana and Canada
•   Communicates progress and any evaluation-related issues to thePNEPResearch & Evaluation Committee andPNEP Project Manager, and produces technical documentation/reportsas required
•   Contributes to building academic capacityin research and evaluation
•   Participates in financial planning for PNEP research and evaluation activity
•   Fulfills other PNEP research and evaluation functions as prescribed by thePNEP Project Director, Evaluation Lead, and/or Research & Evaluation Committee
•   Serves as an active member of the GCNM core staff team by participating inOffice team meetings focused on PNEP activity, and keeps colleagues appraised of developments in project as appropriate
•   Fulfills requirements of internal staff management processes including performance reviews, supervisory meetings, etc.

Qualification Required & Experience

•   University Master’s degree in Nursing, Global Health, Health Administration, International Development, Policy, Research and Evaluation or equivalent
•   Certification or training in Monitoring and Evaluation/Program Evaluation
•   At least 5 years work experience in research and evaluation coordination
•   Experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection (e.g.focus groups, interviews, and surveys) and data analysis
•   Experience with cost effectiveness studies (preferred) and budget management
•   Effective communication, interpersonal, facilitation and organizational skills, especially with regards to academic writing and study coordination
•   Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Project, Excel, Power Point)
•   Experience with Quantitative Analysis, Qualitative Analysis and/or Data Collection software (e.g. Stata, Nvivo, REDcap) an asset
•   Understanding of the Ghanaian health care sector and the factors involved in the successful implementation of evaluation strategies in a cross-cultural context
•   Ability to manage completing priorities, organize workload accordingly and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
•   Ability to work collaboratively PNEP Project Director and Evaluation Lead, as well as  a wide range of internal and external stakeholders on an international project, and remain adaptable to different cultural values and various working styles
•   Approachable manner, proactive work ethic and drive to see tasks through from start to finish
•   Self-directed and detail-oriented with a methodological approach to work
