The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), in partnership with the Bloombery Foundation and Union North America (UNA), is seeking to recruit dynamic and seasoned professionals for a 5-year contract employment under the Bloomberg Road Safety Initiative for the city of Accra in the following position:- Road Safety Coordinator For Road Design And Transportation

Position: Road Safety Coordinator For Road Design And Transportation

This office shall be located in the Department of Transport of AMA and shall work in collaboration with the Roads Unit. The officer shall report to the Road Safety Initiative Coordinator

Key Responsibilities:

•   Coordinate the designing of safer streets and safer mobility systems across relevant agencies such as Department of Urban Roads, Town and Country Planning, etc.
•   Develop detailed work plans with clear milestones for safer streets and mobility for the project
•   Monitor and support progress of work towards milestones
•   Serve as liaison for the interaction between AMA and project initiative partner organisations providing transportation expertise (EMBARQ, World Bank, Global Road Safety Partnership, NACTO)
•   Participate in road traffic safety training provided by the project initiative partners
•   Communicate regularly with the project initiative partners
•   Report regularly on the progress of the project to AMA's senior transportation officials, UNA and other relevant stakeholders
•   Submit written reports on status of implementation of the project on quarterly basis.
•   Troubleshoot barriers to progress and identify opportunities for rapid success

Qualification Required & Experience

•   Master's Degree in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Transport Planning. Transport Engineering, Traffic Management or related field
•   Minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience, 3 years of which must have been road design and safety related projects.
•   Local government experience and familiarity with budgetary process preferred.
•   Quantitative data analysis skills preferred
•   Understanding of Traffic Safety in cities, particularly for pedestrians and vulnerable road users and knowledge of Mass Transport systems

Relevant Skills and Abilities

•   Urban transport policy
•   Familiarity with Local Government planning and budgetary processes
•   Understanding of traffic safety in cities particularly for Pedestrians and Vulnerable road-users
•   Knowledge of mass transport system
•   Familiarity in road crash data interpretation and analysis
•   Proficiency in English language
