Scope of Role:

The GIZ country office in Accra, Ghana, is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to enhance the visibility and impact of GIZ's work in the country. The Communications Specialist will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing effective communications and outreach strategies aimed at improving operational outcomes and raising awareness about joint Ghanaian-German initiatives.

Tasks:

• Develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy aligned with German Cooperation’s goals and objectives.
• Provide technical support for creating GIZ communication and PR materials, ensuring alignment with corporate design guidelines for projects and partners.
• Ensure the implementation of GIZ Corporate Design Guidelines across projects, addressing queries, and briefing service providers on the guidelines.
• Coordinate and support media activities, including event organization, topic research, press release preparation, and press kit development.
• Review and ensure the accuracy of press releases, speeches, and articles in alignment with communication objectives.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local and international media outlets to ensure positive coverage of GIZ Ghana activities.
• Oversee GIZ Ghana's digital platforms, including the website and social media accounts.
• Develop and update internal and external communication tools, such as the Akwaaba Brochure, pull-up banners or the country brochure.
• Collect and evaluate press clippings on a quarterly basis.
• Manage the GIZ Ghana email address, responding to requests.
• Handle all inquiries related to the Corporate Communication Unit (CCU).
• Onboard new communication officers and facilitate periodic training for project communicators to enhance their skills and knowledge.
• Coordinate the internal Communication Specialist Working Group.

Qualification Required & Experience

Profile:

• Master’s degree in journalism, communication, or a related field.
• Ten years (and above) of professional experience in the field of corporate communications, versed in journalistic copy, and preferably in an international context.
• Ability to demonstrate and articulate knowledge on thought leadership, present strategic concepts, and present results data.
• Strong knowledge in impact/results communications and storytelling.
• Excellent writing, editing, copyediting, problem-solving, and organizing skills.
• Proven track record in developing high-quality communication products, both analogue and digital, with strong graphic design and photo editing skills using layout software.
• Proficiency in digital communication and social media management.
• Excellent network of media contacts in Ghana (and abroad) and knowledge of monitoring tools for press reviews.
• Fluent in English, proven both in speaking and writing
